(Source 1/3) The 16 billion barrels of oil that lie untapped there would be more than enough to replace the oil Americans would purchase from Iraq for over 58 years. (Source 6/2)With our growing dependency on foreign oil increasing more and more every day, we can not afford to wait any
Now that the economy is in a downfall, that money should go towards creating more jobs, infrastructure repair, education spending and health care expansion. instead, this money is going towards a very unsuccessful war and the tax payer is having to pay more money in taxes. The most important problem is the fact that the troops and their families are the most affected by the war. In then ten years we have been involved more than 1,700 troops have been killed and over 13,000 have been wounded. From being deployed for a long time and seeing violence troops are extremely prone to developing PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Symptom).
As this is a key feature of desertification it then means that the land for both these reasons is not able to be used and causing desertification to spread. These problems will continue to develop, not allowing the environment or soil to ever become sustainable. These problems are substantially higher as population increase is occurring at an extremely high rate. Currently the population is 260 million and is meant to double ever 20 years. This issue has been a larger struggle due to the harsh climate.
PHIL 1030 Paul Gomberg February 22, 2012 Dinosaurs’ extinction is still a mystery. In “Sex, Drug, Disasters and the Extinction of Dinosaurs”. Stephen Jay Gould discusses three speculations how dinosaurs became extinct. The speculations made by the scientist refer to a theme of our culture, which is sex, drugs, and violence. Two theories, sex and drugs, are quickly ignored because of lack of evidence.
World hunger, pollution, and population growth all contribute to the increasing tensions felt around the world. World hunger has been created by an unequal distribution of food and resources to the people of the world. Wealthier nations, like the United States, consume more than their fair share of resources, and throw away millions of dollars of edible food each day. This wasted food could have fed starving people in areas like Ethiopia. Another problem with food distribution is that governments, like those in Africa, Asia, and Latin America are exporting crops to countries willing to pay higher prices as opposed to feeding its own people (Haviland, 2011, 2008).
In Ray Bradbury's short story "There will come Soft Rains" technology negatively influences society. Ray Bradbury demonstrates the technology can and will lead to war, pain, and laziness. To begin, mankind’s misuse of technology leads to their end. Humans were so thoughtless and selfish that they fought until "a radioactive glow could be seen for miles" (Bradbury 90). Mankind was consumed with technology they ended up not thinking of the damage they could cause with a nuclear war.
University of Florida law professor Mark Fenster, author of the book "Conspiracy Theories: Secrecy and Power in American Culture," said the poll's findings reflect public anger at the unpopular Iraq war, realization that Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction and growing doubts of the veracity of the Bush administration. "What has amazed me is not that there are conspiracy theories, but that they didn't seem to be getting any purchase among the American public until the last year or so," Fenster said. "Although the Iraq war was not directly related to the 9/11 attacks, people are now looking back at 9/11 with much more skepticism than they used to." Conspiracy-believing participants in the poll agree their suspicions are
In the case of Truman’s decision many people claim his choice caused the unnecessary death of thousands of Japanese civilians and the subsequent deaths of thousands more from radiation poisoning. The act was in fact necessary. What many fail to recognize is the extreme stressors of being President of
Soils of this region had always been prone to dust storms in the past, but during the drought of the 1930’s they became far more vulnerable. Farmers had removed millions of acres of the natural grass sod to plant wheat during the previous twenty years. When the wheat failed to grow as the decade-long drought arrived in 1931, the soils were left exposed to the strong winds that annually sweep across the region. Millions of tons of blinding black dust would sweep across the Plains, turning plowed fields into sand dunes. There were a reported fourteen storms in 1932.
The Democrats blame the Republicans for this high cost of gasoline because they link Republicans to big oil companies. In reality, this issue should be blamed on the Democrats. After the Gulf oil spill, Obama banned off-shore drilling. The Democrats are silent because the extra cost for gas is just another tax from the citizens which they want. The United States is in a big hole economically and as of now, it doesn’t look too bright for the future either.
