The commercials on television are scary, the people are depressed and it can kill you slowly. Do you know what I’m talking about? If you thought I was talking about smoking, you’re right! Smoking is one of the number one leading causes of lung cancer, mouth cancer and heart disease. No one likes to hear the word “cancer”, so why be involved with something that is a major cause of it. In the next paragraphs I will go in further detail about the effects of smoking and how hazardous it is to your body and health. Many Americans today smoke! Everywhere you go you see signs for cigarettes and almost every gas station and grocery stores sell them. On the packs it says “this product may cause mouth cancer or be harmful to your body.” Lung cancer is a very serious thing. Smoking is seventy-seven percent the cause of lung cancer in America and over twenty-eight percent of people die from lung cancer each year. It can take many years to realize you have symptoms and it normally occurs between the ages of forty-three and sixty-seven. The lining of your bronchi will eventually grow many abnormal cells and it will be hard for you to breathe. The cells cause damage to your lungs and form the “cancer.” However, if you stop smoking your chance of lung cancer will decrease, and the abnormal cells will eventually disintegrate. Lung cancer by smoking is just as preventable as it is unpreventable. Smoking not only causes mouth cancer, but also dipping, chewing, or using any type of tobacco product. Mouth cancer can cause speech impediments, create huge ulcers, and affect the way you eat and the motor skills of your mouth in general. Some signs of mouth cancer are receding gums, multiple ulcers on the outside or inside of your mouth and bad breath will also occur. Your mouth will also sometimes become numb and the color of your lips, mouth and gums may change color. “This product may
