Outcome 4.2 Explain the importance of an accessible complaints procedure for reducing the likelihood of abuse It is important to have an easy accessible complaints procedure so people know where to find it. They may not want people to know they are filing a complaint so may not want to ask where the forms are. It should be a straight forward form and not too complicated as people may not bother to fill it out otherwise. More issues can be dealt with once a form has been filled out and it can reduce the likelihood of abuse. Unit
Understanding my personal competencies and how to identify new ones needed will help me improve my critical thinking skills. Knowing my competencies helps me evaluate arguments.
I make sure that I am clear on instructions, times, dates or location and if appropriate I like to have it written down. I aim to make positive and lively conversation to promote the interest in conversation. It is important to be confident as if you are nervous you can sometimes create barriers making communication difficult. Eye contact shows that you are listening and are interested in what the person has to say. I try to be polite and friendly in order to create trust, people feel that you are approachable and tend to communicate better when they trust you.
While it can be expensive for my Broadway Café to eliminate any single point of failure in my IT infrastructure, having this in play can possibly be the only way I know for sure that a hardware failure will not interrupt my service or cause data loss. Backing up my data regularly can help me to eliminate any interruptions in case of IT infrastructure failures. Then of course there is human error. While this is among some of the hardest mistakes to prevent and correct, ensuring my data is regularly backed up allows me to restore it to an error-free state. As much as we wish we were, people are not perfect and can easily overlook an important step in a process and accidentally delete data or enter the wrong data.
Involving team members in discussion on their perspectives and expectations will help build agreement with the group and provides an accurate mental model. | Incorrect mental models can derail the common plan and purpose. If each team member uses a different mental model, this will enable the team from finishing the mission. Disagreement may take place should each team member have a different idea on what to do and how to achieve it.
Keeping my emotions in check will help me to think clearly and guide constructive communication; trying to dominate the resolution process will only frustrate the opposition. I will constructively listen to the thoughts and ideas of others and consider them honestly instead of trying to have my own way all of the time. My goal is to defeat my attitude of being a perfectionist. The key is being able to allow myself to make and except the mistakes of others. I do not have to be the best at everything.
Finally, stating the benefits that would result if my solution was implemented or the negative consequences that may result from doing nothing. This leaves the audience with a clear and concise action they can continue to ponder after reading or listening to your argument. Your audience can either choose to endorse your solution or reject it, but following these techniques and approaches allow the best opportunity for
If these assumptions are unchecked or inappropriate, we will make poor decisions and wrong judgments. In our personal relationships we use critical thinking to keep our lines of communications open thereby allowing us to use lessons learned to avoid repeating the same mistakes. In the workplace we avoid stagnation and are willing to challenge the current thinking, which may be out of date and is no longer relevant to our current work philosophy. Paul Richard (2008), an authority on critical thinking, characterizes a good critical thinker in terms of knowledge, abilities, attitudes, and habitual ways of behaving, including the following characteristics. The critical thinker: • uses evidence skillfully and impartially • organizes thoughts and articulates them concisely and coherently • distinguishes between logically valid and invalid inferences • suspends judgment in the absence of sufficient evidence to support a decision • understands the difference between reasoning and rationalizing • attempts to anticipate the probable consequences of alternative actions • understands the idea of degrees of belief • sees similarities and analogies that are not superficially
