Career and Values of Education Throughout high school I wanted to be in the military. I knew that I would sign up. My father was in the Army National Guard. Growing up I did not know about his position or what he did in the Army. I remember that I loved how he looked in his uniform, the support that surrounded him, and I enjoyed the stories he told me when he went off to training of deployment. My mom, my sister, and I did not follow my father around like most military families would. My mother continued to work and my sister and I could finish school. In junior year of high school, I began to look deeper into what the military was about. I looked past the bells and whistles, such as the uniforms, shiny medals, the guns, the tanks, the war, the chanting, and the cadence. My parents gave advice about the responsibilities, the travel away from home, and the benefits that the military could offer. I noticed I have family members in the Army, the Marines, the Coastguard, but no members in the Navy. I thought about what the military could offer me. I presently serve in the United States Navy. I am an enlisted medical specialist. I assist in treating disease and the injured. I also assist nurses and doctors care for Navy people and their families. Among the job titles the Navy had to offer, I chose health care for the following reasons. I do not mind working hands-on with patients or behind-the-scenes in health administration. I enjoy caring for and helping people in need. It is also a long-term stable job option in or out of the military. This position I hold needs me to be flexible. It offers a wide range of occupations. I can train and receive qualifications from all aspects of the medical field. This gives me the opportunity to work in a primary health clinic, the emergency room, inpatient wards, and dental clinics. I look forward to
