TO: Professor Bol FROM: Nicole Schmidt, AE1, group F Date: February 13, 2011 SUBJECT: Campground Management Services Control System Analysis Objectives and Control Activities Campground Management Services (CMS) might aim to maintain a simple collection, deposit, and fee recording system that its retired senior citizen attendants understand and easily operate. Keeping all of its records on paper and requiring campers to post their receipts at the front of their campsite avoids any technology gap problems CMS’ main employees might have. The mandatory receipt posting supports the firm’s possible objective of recording and verifying campground reservations that should have occurred and ones that actually occurred. This control prevents customers from camping without a paid reservation and helps the attendant detect for unpaid camping areas. Keeping authorization, classification, and security costs low in order to provide low camping costs is another possible CMS objective. The CMS-provided registration and fee envelopes help ensure that the campers record the reservations according to company policy. The attendant’s daily checks of the registration lock-box control for recording reservations in the proper time period. Finally, the physical lock on the lock-box, storage of the collected money and forms in the attendant’s motor home, and mandatory CMS clothing are all controls that aim to protect the system from unauthorized access or destruction. The simplicity of each of these measures keeps the overall costs low for the campers while providing preventive and detective controls. The standard registration forms prevent and detect any insufficient information recording, the daily lock-box checks detect any unregistered campers, keeping the fees in the lock-box or motor home prevents robbery, and the mandatory CMS clothing detects any imposter attendants from
