Cafeteria food- Is it Healthy? Cafeteria food in workplaces, schools, and tourist attractions are serving popular foods that are unhealthy, like burgers, fries, and pizza. The government and schools are changing their mind-sets to healthy. They are working together to serve healthier foods in cafeterias. Cafeteria food may be going healthy, but the quality is not up to par. Is the cafeteria’s change to healthier foods going to help or hurt students, workers, and average people that eat in cafeterias across the U.S.? The change to healthier cafeteria food is necessary. The change to a different mind-set is mandatory. The change to healthier cafeteria food can lower child obesity between the ages of 6 and 19. Also change the number of people in general that are obese in the U.S. The facts that had come to their attention were 1 out of 5 Americans between the ages of 6 and 19 are obese. Also 62% of students have access to junk food at school and only 20% have a healthy option to eat from a salad bar. The schools have not made the grade of providing a healthy environment for students. The unhealthy food served, is the popular food we want, we eat, we enjoy, and we have become accustomed too. In schools across the U.S. their cafeterias have had to change how they serve food to their students. The new department of agriculture guidelines was made to make healthier decisions in schools. According to the guidelines schools must offer fruits and vegetables in which the student must choose at least one. Also non-fat milk is only allowed in school cafeterias. There was a ban on artificial, artery-clogging, trans-fat milk. Also there is a limit on calories and sodium in each meal. The school’s cafeteria food in many students’ eyes across the U.S. is rancid, nasty, and inedible. The quality is not what it used to be. Students constantly complain about the same things
