Hard determinism is the theory that human behaviour and actions are wholly determined by external factors, and therefore humans do not have genuine free will or ethical accountability. There are several different supporting views for this belief. Hard determinism is underpinned by the work of Isaac Newton’s theory of scientific laws which is that we are completely governed by these laws. According to these laws one does not have moral responsibility for their actions as they were predetermined by a ‘higher power’. Hence why, natural laws such as gravity and motion assist in forming the basis for the cause and effect that fills the discussion of hard determinism.
I myself am an Atheist, and therefore in my opinion believe miracles are impossible as all miracles are by, definition impossible if they claim to be the action of a deity. There are four different definitions of miracles, A ‘radical change for the better’ in a person, an ordinary event which has Religious significance for the believer, A remarkable or unusual event which has been directly caused by God but does not go against or break the laws of nature and The ‘laws of nature’ are being broken by God, which is the definition David Hume (18th Century) uses. This more traditional understanding of a miracle is the understanding of classical Theism, namely that God is omnipotent and omnibenevolent, and therefore he does intervene on occasion to perform miracles. As an atheist, David Hume refutes miracles, he does not believe that they can happen, although he has one of the most famous definitions of the traditional understanding of a miracle. Hume
a) Give an account of the fundamental ideas of the design argument for the existence of God (21 marks) The design argument for the existence of God is also called the teleological argument. The design argument is based on observation on the obvious order in the natural world, to conclude that it’s the result of design not just by chance. The evidence from design indicates that there is a designer and the argument concludes that this designer is God. ‘With such signs of forethought in the design of living creatures, can you doubt they are the work of choice or design?’ Socrates. The design argument is based on the view that the universe has order, purpose and regularity.
for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?” (Ecclesiastes 6:12, King James Version). There is no book of literature (such as the Bible) to use as a guide to live by, so there is really nothing to gauge morals or ethics by other than a gut instinct. Because of this mindset, relativism is a way of life, as there is no such thing as absolute truth. Truth is symbiotic and subject to change according to the individual and society at large. Secular Humanists believe when you die, that’s the end of everything; there is no afterlife.
Gilgamesh is only seeking immortality, he doesn’t start with anything. His loss isn’t as great, because he had nothing to begin with. Adam and Eve lose everything. In the bible, God is both active and unflawed and because of this none of the mistakes happening can be put on him. All the blame is put on Adam and Eve.
In the writings of Principa Ethica(1903);G.E Moore criticises the cognitive stance of Ethical naturalism of Naturalistic fallacy. Here Moore claims that one cannot derive an “ought” from an “is”, this meaning that one cannot move from a fact to a moral judgment as, he saw this as logically inconsistent. For example one cannot say that ethical language or moral terms are similar to natural properties. This would deduce them to as meaningless. In fact, Moore claims that ethical language is similar to simple concepts, by this he means that one can only determine the meaning of ethical language in association with another object.
Charles Taze Russell teaches, “the Holy Spirit is not a person and is therefore not one of the gods of the Trinity, the Trinity doctrine was not conceived by Jesus or the early Christians, the obvious conclusion therefore is that Satan is the originator of the Trinity doctrine”. Mainstream Christianity has always accused Jehovah's Witnesses as a tightly knit and secretive movement known for unorthodox plagiarism of the Christian community. Allegations of the Society's founder, Charles Taze Russell of being possessed by God's Holy Spirit, through which he received the true understanding of the Scriptures, has never held ground with
This religion doesn’t take part in any war, voting, blood transfusions, homosexuality, no use of crosses, no Easter Sunday, no premarital sex, no gambling or drinking ,no abortion and not even birthdays. Celebration and participation of any of the occasions listed above are considered unbiblical and pagan to Jehovah Witnesses. They believe that they should instead “Live morally and in accordance with Jehovah's commandments, spread the good news of the Kingdom to others.” They celebrate only the death of Christ annually. In conclusion, this religion could seem legitimate to it’s followers. But for me, this religion seems brainwashing and false.
This brings the poem closer to the story of Jesus and in turn the bible. Ultimately the fact that Beowulf is never fighting humans and only monsters, demons, or evil brings back the fact that Beowulf is almost divine meaning he is so close to god that his force is virtually unstoppable at the beginning. That being said he has flaws that make him week and by the end of the poem. Like the fact that he gave in and made a deal with the devil to make him king as long as the goblet was with her; but when it inevitably found its way back to him he could not undo the things he had
It is necessary and possible for science to deliberately exclude any * subjective/ emotional reactions * imaginative projections * valuations * expectations from our scientific dealings with reality if not avoided the resultant knowledge will be deceptive and untrustworthy what should be avoided is any form of * religious * social * political commitment of the knower attaining knowledge these are unjustified and untested prejudices which impair an impartial view of and grip on reality. these prevent objective reliable knowledge of reality. when done properly it yields knowledge of things in the world and also of the connections between these things as they really are: facts have to speak through direct perception for themselves in a neutral and unhindered way. *
