NONVERBAL INTERVIEW ETIQUETTE By Jon Bienz Etiquette is defined as a set of standards that operate to show the expectations for social behavior regarding orthodox customs within a culture, social class, or group. Etiquette can be divided into two types; verbal, which includes essential communication skills, and nonverbal, which includes actions and perceptions. The nonverbal aspects of etiquette consist of knowing the standards of nearly any industry regarding proper dress attire for both men and women, the accessories they choose to adorn their person, proper hygiene, correct body language and posture, as well as the preparation they made for the meeting . This set of standards act as the guidelines for an interviewer to judge the viability of the interviewee within their job setting. The people that are offering the positions have a vested interest in making sure that a future employee fits to the desired tasks they will be assigned(Post,2005).
