David Waltosz Lankford 4/21/2013 Draft: final Audience: Principal of C.V Bullying Has No Place in School “The National Education Association estimates that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students” (Michele Borba ,web). It should be made mandatory that all schools have an anti-bulling program in place. It would decrease adolescent suicide rate, improve school performance, and increase self-esteem. Fear is what many students feel every time they go through the school door. They may have the sickening feeling that someone is going to attack them in the hall, hit or kick them, and throw a verbal slur or even worse. “American schools harbor approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million of their victims” (Michele Borba ,web) Michele Borba, a writer states that “Bullying has become so widespread and common, adults are blinded to its extensive harm” (Michele Borba ,web) There are different kinds of bullying and all of them are harmful and hurtful. There are many cases of adolescent suicide caused by bullying.. “Victims of bullying suffer increased rates of anxiety, depression, and related social and emotional problems” (Cornell ,web). In the case of Phoebe Prince a fifteen year old girl from Massachusetts she suffered from constant mental abuse from peers and internet stalking. After weeks of the facebook comments and the emotional roller-coaster she took her life to escape the torment of being bullied. Nine teens were questioned and charged in Phoebe’s suicide. Douglas Stanglin a journalist for USA TODAY states “The charges include statutory rape, violation of civil rights, criminal harassment, and disturbing a school assembly” (Stanglin ,web). The teens were brought to justice and the Christian Science Monitor reports “The five teens have been sentenced to probation and community service”
