Summary of the Case The Gerber Company is one of the leaders in the development and manufacturing, and marketing companies for foods and products for all children from birth till the age of three. The case related back to the chapter though Gerber’s great examples of the fundamental principles of total quality. The case does a great job talking about the advantages of teamwork, and empowerment of the employees and other members of the acting team. The case also would do a great job of emphasizing the lack of utilizing customer’s feedback, and how these faults affect the company’s situation in the market today. The challenges that faced the company and the evolution of the company in the grounds of total quality management can be described in many different ways. One of the first things to take into considerations would the understanding and concern from the parents when giving the food to the kids, Gerber as always aiming to maintain the best quality. The team’s atmosphere is necessity in linking to every process in the company. At no costs would the company let problems come from their ideas, because the company faced skepticism from the employees a lot of the time. So the company dedicated to quality hired consultants to train supervisors for a healthy team work which gave very profitable results. The teamwork leads employees to feel more comfortable, producing more efficiently. The company then started involving the frontline operators to procedures along with quality assurance staff to help give an example of TQM principles to the workforce. Making the people feel empowered and allowed for them to talk more freely about the trouble spots in the process. The training in quality was directed towards all employees.
