Noel Mendez Mendez 1 Mrs. Hinton English 3Period 2 August 31, 2012 Epic Hero Beowulf achieved many quest of tremendous value to himself and society. In the Epic From Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel, Beowulf did something that many people aren’t capable of doing. Beowulf was considered courageous during his lifetime because of everything he accomplished. Beowulf shows bravery in line 158 “… Death was errand.” He states that he will fight to his death.
She speaks only of one God, something unknown to Beorn and his fellow Vikings. She tells them of love and forgiveness, which is the greatest weapon in any battle. And though Beorn does not understand, even laughing at such ideas, he listens because it all makes sense to him. Beorn, the proud son of a Viking chief, displayed the typical pagan Viking personality. He is a brave boy who challenges a bigger and much stronger Viking to a swimming contest.

Ralph upholds the responsibility as chief because he knows he has to somehow guide the boys until they were rescued. Although he is afraid of what lay ahead, he becomes brave and takes position with confidence. Apart from taking a risky position as leader, Ralph shows bravery by taking risks so the other boys do not have to. He, for example, went down to the red cliff where the boys think the beast could be hiding. “...[He] realized with surprise that he did not really expect to meet the beast and didn’t know what he would do about it if he did” (Golding 105).
Kowalski sees Thao for who he truly is, and lends his helping hand. This was a huge step for Kowalski, stepping out of his narrow comfort zone to help a young man in desperate need. If Kowalski never decided to help Thao, then Thao may have suffered a completely different or unfortunate fate. Walt Kowalski was not a nice man, but he had a natural need to help a young man get his life back on track. That took great courage on Walt’s part, and a huge step out of his comfort zone.
Atticus defines true courage as when you fight for what is right regardless of whether you win or lose and demonstrates it multiple times in the novel. Jem demonstrates courage when he tries to stop Bob Ewell from harming Scout. He tells Scout to run while trying to help her escape but ends up getting hurt. He also shows courage when refusing to leave Atticus alone at the jail cell in chapter 15. Scout was the one that truly got the men to leave but if Jem had not refused
I shall fail before Medoto and through his eyes she will see my failure. I must fail... because now I see that I am trembling” this shows how the young Masai Temas is not trembling because of his fear of the lion but because he fears failure and shame. Continuing and finally North Americans also have to deal through difficult rite of passages such as, graduation from school, initiation as a teenager (coming out of genitals) and death, but if to comparing we could easily say that the Masai still go through even harder initiations, and rite of passages . Such as Temas when he felt that he had to succeed at killing the lion in order to have any respect, not only from other people, but respect for himself. “...and then they would judge his courage and his skill.

Territorial behaviour is a type of innate behaviour, which means it is built in to the Lion and it does not think about what it is doing. For example one type of territorial behaviour would be roaring to intimidate other animals; there are some reasons to why Lions roar which I will reveal in the following essay. African Lions are one of the four big cats in the genus Panthera(Tiger, Lion, Jaguar, and Leopard), and is a member of the Felidae family. They usually live in prides consisting from 15 to 37 lions, each pride must mark out its territory so that it will ensure their safety and to let other prides know to not hunt there. A pride’s territory can range from 15 to 150 square miles depending on the size of the pride.
Eulogy for my Brother Toby Collins was my big brother – older than me by almost two years. He was born the middle child in our large family – a birth order that I’m sure had its blessings and its burdens. My early memories of Toby were as a protective big brother, a sweet boy; funny and rambunctious. He was also bold. I remember him in the summer time, when my family would go swimming at a favorite lake.
