* What is marketing? How did you define the term before you read chapter one? What do you expect to learn from this course? According to our book’s definition which is on page 4, marketing is the process of creating, distributing, promoting, and pricing goods, services, and ideas to facilitate satisfying exchange relationships with customers and develop and maintain favorable relationships with stakeholders in a dynamic environment. Before I read chapter one, I thought marketing was advertising or selling, or the place where people buy and sell products and also gain benefits from the sales. Basically, I thought marketing was a place where people did business. I expect to learn how the operation of marketing. For example, I want to know how to analyze what customers’ needs are; how to make different strategies for these products; and how to find the break point between price and quality. * Choose four actual products that you would find at your local Supermarket. These products should come from different product categories (for example, soda, medicine, cleaning products, diapers). Include the brand name for each product. Identify the possible target market for each product. 1. Apple Ipad – the target is for those people who are interested in electronics, or who like to use fashionable stuff or just may like Apple’s products. 2. Lipton Ice Tea – the target is for those people who want to drink tea easily. 3. Nikon COOLPIX L26 16MP Digital Camera – the target is for those people who don’t want to spend a lot of money but really like to take photos; it could be students. 4. The Parent's Choice Diapers – the target is for those people who have a baby. *What is SWOT? How important is the SWOT analysis to the marketing planning process? Conduct a SWOT analysis for the company of your choice. You should include at least three variables for each area of the SWOT.
