Breast Feeding vs Bottle Feeding Many new mothers struggle with the decision of whether to breastfeed or bottle feed their newborn baby. With each there are many pros and cons. Most people will argue that breast feeding is more beneficial to the baby, and is an overall better choice. However, it is not a bad decision by any means to decide to bottle feed your baby, so you should not feel guilty if this is the decision you make. Bottle fed babies are able to be fed by anyone, and not just their mother. This allows for help to be provided when needed for a busy mother. Newborns often need to bed fed every two to four hours, which can put a lot of pressure on a mother when she has other duties to tend to. Therefore, if someone is available to help feed the baby with a bottle then this can allow the mother to carry out other necessary tasks. If you plan to return to work after the baby is born, bottle feeding is an attractive option because anybody can help feed the baby. Infant formulas have gotten better and better at matching the ingredients and their proportions to that of human milk. Don't hesitate to pick a less expensive brand of formula if finances are a factor. Most formulas are pretty much the same. More expensive does not necessarily mean better. You can pick whichever type of formula best suits your needs; powder, concentrate, or ready-to-feed. There is no nutritional difference between them, but you may want to keep in mind that powdered formula is the least expensive. When you bottle feed your baby, you do not have to do it in privacy. You can use a bottle anywhere in public and not have to be embarrassed. Many mothers are not comfortable enough to breast feed in public, so if you use a bottle then it does not have to be a concern of if there will be a private spot for them to feed their baby.
