FATHER/SON RELATIONSHIP Blacky’s relationship with his father is integral in moulding the adolescent that he is. Although the relationship between the two is clearly negative, it somewhat helps him to look past the fatherly influences, and to seek positive role models to assist him through the journey to maturity. Blacky’s self-esteem levels are low due to the negative relationship and he expects no support from his father. His relationship with his mother, the relationships he develops with other men assist Blacky in developing the courage to stand up for what he believes in. During the course of the novel of ‘Deadly Unna?’ the readers are exposed to the negativity between the father and his son.
Willy asks his neighbor to take a state test for one of his sons because he wants his son to get a good grade. These lessons that Willy is teaching his sons will not help them in life. In fact it will probably debilitate them. The American dream in which Willy and many other men of the era desires is one in which the children are successful in life and are able to help the parents in old age. Cory’s whole life revolves around football and his belief that if he continues to play, he will be able to connect with his father. This becomes clear when Rose explains to Troy, “He is just trying to be like you with the sports” (435). Cory’s belief that his father doesn’t like him fuels a lot of the conflict between Cory and Troy. Since Cory believes the only connection he can make with Troy is through sports, he plays football against his father’s wishes. This in turn causes more friction between the two instead of creating the connection that Cory hopes for.
Moreover, he has a son who will model himself on his father. And no farther wants his son to become a criminal. Thus, along with the coach Porter’s help, Junior realizes that he is responsible in his life, and not only for himself. He has people to take care of. Self-concept and Perception Impact Interpersonal Communication Self –concept is an idea of the self constructed from the beliefs one holds about oneself and the responses of others. Jim’s self-concept impacted his interaction with his father in a negative way. This is only because Jim is not his father and doing things such as his father expected from him. The way we want our children to be is our own self-concept but it doesn’t always turn out that way. Families in Change –Movie Analysis Assignment 2 In the movie Boyz in the Hood there are two families depicted, the film tells the story of three friends: Trey, Doughboy and Ricky. Trey is living with his mother at the beginning of the film, and then his mother decides to send him to live with his father after he gets involved in a classroom fight with other student; breaking a contract that he had with his mother to behave. Trey’s mother feels that it would best that Trey’s father (Furious Styles) teach him responsibility and values that only a father can, he lives in a tough inner city neighbourhood of Los Angeles. Trey meets his two friends Ricky and Doughboy they live with their mother in the same neighbourhood. Trey’s family is a single parent family with trey’s father being the only parent in the household.
The novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee shows that honor is a prominent characteristic in a person. Atticus Finch is honorable because, raises his children with a strong set of values, he gets himself into something he knows is not going to turn out good but still tries his hardest, , and isn’t willing to cover anything up to take the easy way out. In the novel, Sir Atticus Finch is an honorable character and shows this by the way he raises his children. Atticus is Scout’s, the protagonist, and Jem’s father. Atticus tries to teach his children to vision yourself in the other person’s shoes before judging them.
He advises the reader to learn the same skill sets early on in life so that they can take advantage of the opportunities in front of them. Twain makes fun of the parents’ false sense of control of their children. Twain explains how kids really act, and when they should obey their parents. He states “[always] obey your parents, when theyare present (291).Twain is not telling kids to disobey their parents. He is telling parents when their children are alone they don’t always follow the rules.
