Prison officials described it as an unclear method. Prisons incorporated rehabilitation programs to help inmates learn how to reduce their criminal behavior and educational programs were available to help the prisoners be able to receive a high school diploma or GED. The vocational training programs were able to be divided into two types which are certified and generic. The aim of the prison was to reform the prisoner through solitary confinement, religion and order. This approach was a symbolic step to civilise punishment, it was a huge development from the retributive methods of the bloody code. To evaluate the success of Pentonville, it must be measured against three factors. The first factor is the conditions for prisoners prior to Pentonville and during Pentonville. The second factor that needs to be considered is the routine the inmates faced on a day to day basis and the outcome of the rehabilitation.

A program that could be put into effect is one that would allow the prisoners to get an education. If they get an education while in prison it would make it easier to them to get a better job when he/she is released, and possibly breaking the vicious cycle. To achieve his purpose, Moten mainly uses ethos to appeal to his readers. By mentioning that he is a co-founder of an antiviolence organization and by sharing his firsthand experience working with youths in prison establishes his credibility. He also appeals to his readers' emotions by recounting the Newton and South Capitol Street massacres. Motten in his essay addresses the counter argument to his thesis, the idea that violence shown in the entertainment media does not influence people to commit crimes. He refutes this claim by saying that in current times many people have become victim to violent acts similar to the ones shown in violent video games and movies.
The theory that I relate to the most is the virtue theory because it focuses on the moral codes that I have developed through personal life experiences. An experience that I can relate to this theory relates back to my military service. My job was to enforce the law by arresting/apprehending all individuals that broke the law. For instance, whenever I pulled an individual over for speeding, I would issue him or her a citation for their committed infraction. My decision is virtuous as the individual was creating an unsafe environment, and I was following a moral code.

Being a correctional officer is enforcing rules and regulations that may help offenders look up to the correctional officers for advice or see them as a mentor.

House arrest is the third one which is almost the same thing as incarceration of prison difference is that your under incarceration in your own house and have different rules you need to follow and if you disobey them, then prison will be the second option, fourth option is probation this means that in some how you are free, but you still need to follow several rules by your “probation officers” depending if it’s an adult or juvenile order.
