One is to score him firmly as America’s chief executive. The other is typical view of the president only as a politician. From the Machiavellian perspective, Bush’s primary goal was to increase his power, rather than to confront America’s problems – to maintain the appearance of leadership while exhorting his position. Since taking office George W has been confronted with many new tests, including an unsure economy and global climate change. On the other hand, George W was very scrupulous as a politician.

Film Paper December 1, 2013 Alec Estes Which leader in the Last King of Scotland or All the Kings Men was in line with Machiavelli’s views on being feared or loved, attaining/maintaining power, and reputation better? Machiavelli’s views on ruling pertain to princes in the 16th century, but dictators, such as Suddam Hussein, and presidents, such as George Bush, alike have adopted Machiavelli’s teachings to maintain their power. Machiavelli urged princes to rule by whatever means necessary and argued that being fear proves more powerful than being loved. He believed that people respond favorably toward a ruler out of fear, and, that should someone oppose his views, a ruler can and should take immediate and drastic action. A reputation, Machiavelli stated, every ruler can gain with “great enterprises and giving proof of prowess,” meaning that if a ruler can prove the overwhelming greatness of his country, he will earn a respected reputation amongst his neighbors.
For Obama to be a Machiavellian prince he does not only need power, but it depends on how it’s used through military matters. It is considerable to consider Obama a prince because he focuses on cutting government spending on the military. Also, he deals with being blamed on how a prince should keep his word. – This last sentence does not blend with the paragraph- The opposition claims that he won the presidency not by good fortune and not through his own truthful words. Not only that, but Matthews goes about explaining what one must do in order to become successful if one chooses to enter politics. The books main purpose serves to help newcomers to politics or even veterans to better prepare themselves for all of the dirty, clever, and above all, brilliant tricks that politicians use to gain an upper hand in one of the dirtiest “games” around. What interests a reader about this book is how Matthews is able to make a dull topic such as politics interesting and somewhat captivating. He uses well known figures that have been engraved in the minds of people such as Roosevelt, Kennedy, Carter, Reagan, and others to help capture the attention of the
Clinton's testicle lockbox is big enough for the entire Democrat hierarchy, not just some people in the media." , and then there was Chris Matthews and he said , “The reason she's a U.S. senator, the reason she's a candidate for president, the reason she may be a front-runner is her husband messed around." . Although these are clearly Republican pundits, these remarks made people start thinking more of her as a woman rather that a qualified person for President. My Grandfather, a die hard Democratic, believes that Bill Clinton was the best president we have ever had, but he thought maybe Mr. Clinton came out a little arrogant.
Liberals are probably the strongest advocates of democracy. Democracy solves a problem described by an old adage: "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." When power or wealth concentrates too heavily in too few hands in society, democracy is useful for dispersing much of that power back to the people. In other words, when enough voters become discontented with the status quo, they vote to change it. Of course, those already in power bitterly resent this; that is why there is such a strong anti-democratic streak in wealthy conservatives and business owners.
Without Nixon, there would be no battle because he, as president, was a part of the Watergate Scandal. At the moment he is winning because he has the possession of the tapes. Another symbol the cartoonist used was the drawing of the two arms (labeled executive and legislative) gripped in a intense wrestling battle. The cartoonist was able to use this symbol to illustrate his point because the arms represent the battle for power between the executive branch and legislative branch. (The big battle between the executive and congress did not really arise until the Watergate Scandal brought out a major problem.)
