Section 1 – Understand the purpose of information technology in a business environment 1. In relation to your current business environment (or one that you are familiar with), identify at least two different types of information technology that may be used when completing work tasks. Word processing software to create a variety of documents. In my workplace we use Microsoft Word/Publisher. I also use Excel spreadsheets to record and calculate information.
The review of access control requirement for the HRIS is the scope of this discussion. Each role requires different access levels in the different areas of HR and the company. HR clerk requires read and write access to the database for personnel records in the office they reside in and clerks at Head Quarters will require read and write access throughout HR in the company. The HR department may have other resources that HR clerks will need only view access to as the manager or supervisor would control changes on that resource. HR supervisors will require the same level of access to the database for personnel records.
The next question that will have to be answered is how many computers, printers and other devices will be used by the organization. Once the administrator have all the user information and the number of computers needed, then they can develop a logical model of the active directory. This means that the Administrator will design the hierarchy through delegation. By dividing the system into organization into operational organizational units. This is all depending on what kind of company you are working with.
The purpose of retrieving information could be for a number of reasons, examples could be for marketing purposes or to provide information to the Inland Revenue. 1.2-Describe different information systems and their main features The term “information systems” refers to a stystem that handles the flow and maintenance of information, which in turn supports the business operation. The components which bring together an information system are people, equipment, procedures and data. These can be classified into 6 main areas: 1. Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) These are operational level systems usually dealt with by shop floor workers and front line staff.
Each table consists of columns and rows. The database engine is responsible for building or structuring the data in the database. It is also responsible for storing and retrieving data. It can accept SQL requests from application programs written by users, known as the DBMS (Database Management System) components. The components of a typical DBMS consist of forms facility, report writer, interactive query tool, application program and database front-end.
Data independence & Structural independence. b. Data redundancy 3. From your reading, discuss different types of databases? Discuss briefly the type of database that is being used at your work and also the type of operating system used.
I would recommend a SQL Client/Server database system. Client/server systems are constructed so that the database can reside on a central computer, known as a server, and be shared among several users. Users access the server through a client or server application: In a two-tier client/server system, users run an application on their local computer, known as a client, which connects over a network to the server running SQL Server. The client application runs both business logic and the code to display output to the user, and is also known as a thick client. In a multitier client/server system, the client application logic is run in two locations: The thin client is run on the user's local computer and is focused on displaying results to the user.
For the end-users, who in this case are the organization’s employees and non-technical staff, it would be advisable to take a task-oriented approach to the documentation process. This would mean that the documentation would solely focus on describing individual commands as applied within the system and their implication to both end-users and system administrators. User documentation would therefore include instructions on how to get started with the system, as well as explaining the precise functionality of the new system. This would ensure that the transition from the old system to the new one would not be overly complicated for the employees. System documentation intended for the Information System personnel or system administrators would include technical details to guide them during maintenance and upgrades.
Such as data warehouse which is a system which helps with storage of information electronically and also helps with analysis, retrieval, sharing and managing data. Also Office Automation which is a computer based information system and helps to create, modify and put together information in digital format and lastly the Executive Information System which with information flow, reporting and data analysis for the organisation. It is used by executives and senior managers to predict the future of the company and this system presents data from both external and internal resources. 1.3 Any information stored in an organisation has to follow the security and confidentiality procedures. Information security and confidentiality is the process where data is kept away from unauthorised access,
IT205 W 1 DQ 1 What is an information system? How does it work? What are its people, organizational, and technological components? List and describe the people, organizational, and technological components. The collection of methods, practices, algorithms and methodologies are the components that an information system consists of.
