NAME: WILLIAMS EBITIBI BEKE ICWS NO: WILEBC1303 STUDENT ID: 688683 DEPT: CHEMICAL ENGINEERING ESSAY ON BIOGEOCHEMICAL CYCLE Firstly, I would like to enlighten on biogeochemical cycle, or substance, it is a pathway by which a chemical element or molecule moves through both biotic (biosphere) and abiotic compartments of earth. A series of change which comes back to the starting point and which can be repeated, In biogeochemical cycle, biological, chemical and geological factors are all involved. The circulation of chemical nutrients like carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorous, calcium and water etc. through the biological and physical world are known as biogeochemical cycles. Taking water for an example, it is always recycled through the water cycle. The water undergoes evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, falling back to earth clean and fresh. Elements, chemical compounds, and other forms of matter are posed from one organism to another and from one part of the biosphere to another through biogeochemical cycles. Water is composed of two elements, hydrogen and oxygen more specifically, a molecule of water is composed of two(2) hydrogen atoms bonded with one oxygen atom, H2O is the chemical formula for water, further more I would like to write more about these two elements oxygen and hydrogen. Fig 1 water cycle OXYGEN Identifying the typical source and sinks of oxygen, human beings obtain this element from the air. It enters a person’s blood stream through the lungs. The blood carries oxygen to the cells of the body In the cells, oxygen combines with chemical obtained from food . Energy produced during this process makes it possible for each cell to perform its function in the body. Also, oxygen atoms are present in water and water is essential to all life, it is also present in many organic compounds. Oxygen as
