Bing Crosby was one of the most influential singers of the time, and from 1926 to 1977, Crosby was the number one best selling artist across the USA. Crosby was a very talented man. He could sing, dance, and act, which put him into a lot of movies. But his best known movie is “White Christmas”, where two WWII army friends that now have a big singing career happen to meet the girls of their dreams, auditioning them to sing the song “Sisters”. Through a crazy scheme, the four travel up to Vermont to see the snow at Christmas. Crosby’s 1948 recording of the song “White Christmas” is the best-selling song of all time, selling more than 30 million copies. Every Christmas, Crosby held a Christmas special on his own television show, The Bing Crosby Show. Also, Crosby is the third most popular actor in movies, right behind Clark Gable and John Wayne. Crosby is a member of the exclusive biggest best-sellers along with Elvis Presley, The Beatles, ABBA, Michael Jackson, and Queen. Crosby has performed with many other influential artists, such as, Bob Hope, Dixie Lee, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, The Rhythm Boys, Rosemary Clooney, Louis Armstrong, and my personal favorite, David Bowie, in Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy. Crosby had a strong love of golf in his later years, and moved to Spain to hunt and golf. His doctor had advised him to only play nine holes because of his heart condition. On October 14, 1977, while golfing, Crosby had a heart attack, collapsed, and died. Only four days before had been his last performance, a recording of his final Christmas special to be aired later that year. Many people have said that Crosby’s influence was the music itself. Bob Hope once said, "Dear old Bing. As we called him, the Economy-sized Sinatra. And what a voice.…. I miss that voice. I can't even turn on the radio around Christmastime without crying anymore."
