The civilian oversight of law enforcement movement in the United States is expanding and evolving. Oversight is becoming integrated into the fabric of our society and government; there is recognition that oversight is beneficial and here to stay (Attard, 2010). The reason behind there being a need for civilian oversight is because of the apparent failure of the police to show accountability of actions to the public. Commonly, it is much easier to have something along the lines of misconduct to transpire and because of it being by the police it is overlooked or unaddressed. This may be a problem
Through several programs this idea is being put to the test and gradually the door seems to be opening to allow these two seemingly brother organizations to move in a positive direction for the good of the citizens. Partnerships The relationship between private security and public police is one that has been argued for decades. Establishing partnerships between private security and public law enforcement agencies would be beneficial to both law enforcement and the private sector. The NYPD Shield program is an excellent example of public law enforcement and private security partnering for the good of the community. The number one objective of public police agencies is to prevent crime and public safety.
In addition to the interviews or even the interrogations the investigator needs to have a positive attitude, sensitivity and be able to think clearly when it comes time to collect evidence at the scene of the crime. Once this evidence is collected, the investigator will need to carefully transport the evidence collected to labs where it will be examined by professional specialists (forensic pathologists, DNA specialist or a finger print technician). In a rape case, some evidence could be skin under the victim’s

Immediately after Sir Peel’s conception and birth of the Metropolitan Police Department, he began to institute his own principles and views on the proper method of policing. The root of his guidelines centered around officers of the law developing healthy and beneficial relationships with the citizens they are meant to protect. Instead of intruding and the abuse of power that citizens had been receiving previously. His methods were so profound and revolutionary that the principles he created are still used today in law enforcement. When Sir Peel first began his policing ideology his principles of law enforcement practicing were separated into nine elements that were the foundation for how he believed law enforcement should be.
I/O Psychology Case Study: How Do We Hire Police Officers? 1. A series of validation methods would probably work best for the city to select police officers. The aim of this testing is to make the police officer hiring more easy procedure and at the same time to increase the entry barrier for the police officers. I think the best approach for the city would be to use selection battery to make hiring decisions.
Growth of Compstat Police performance has always been an issue since the beginning of time. The implementation of Compstat was to improve the performance of the police department. Weisburd agrues that “The impetus behind Compstat was New York City’s police commissioner William Bratton and his efforts to make a huge organization, legendary for its resistance to change, responsive to his leadership-a leadership that had clearly staked out crime reduction and improving the quality of life in the neighborhoods of New York City as its top priorities” (Weisburd, et.al. 2004). Has compstat helped the performance of the police or has it continue to stay where it is and not much being done as before?
On the contrary, cultural diversity in criminal justice system has led to the establishment of a society where every American citizen has equal employment opportunities and where the minorities are sought to work as its very own professionals (Cliffnotes, 2012). Additionally, education opportunities have been subjected to both the minority and the majority creating a society of literate citizens. Again, the provision of culturally diverse community policing skills has led to the realization of rapport where members of the society from different cultures and are equally important. In most investigations, the cooperation and assistance of community members is very essential for success in detection and apprehension of criminals and law offenders. This is because it is the society that provides testimonies, the eye witnesses and other forms of assistance that is required to enforce the law effectively.
As time went on and the natives became more settled and peace was more successful, policing became one of the primary duties of the Justices of the Peace. As evolution took hold of the colonies, they became cities and towns making it necessary to create a more organized form of law enforcement. Then “The Night Watch was born, in 1636 as a productive way to control the actions and criminal activities of the area in Boston. New York later took on the same idea creating the Shout and Rattle Watch in 1651(Schmallager, 2009). Through the success in some areas of these teams and the weaknesses in other areas, Philadelphia felt that policing could be more productive if the area was divided and assigned small teams per area.
Compare and contrast the urban visions of Ebenezer Howard and Le Corbusier. Which of these do you think provides the best blueprint for safe and liveable urban neighbourhoods? Ebenezer Howard and Le Corbusier have contributed many beliefs of urban visions, with Ebenezer’s vision of a Garden city and Le Corbusier’s vision of Cities of tomorrow, which are both their most effective of works. The importance of their works was that their ideas of a designed city were to improve the quality life of people, and by creating these ideas of a designed city it would have a major impact on crime, even though crime was not there motivation to their ideas. But in order to calculate levels of crime this would be done by observing them through theories of environmental criminology, which can interrelate towards Ebenezer Howards and Le Corbusier’s idea of an urban vision.
