Each of the sections below will examine an aspect related to the benefits and detriments of gentrification, and will allow for a cohesive understanding of an issue that will continue to be hotly contested, not just in the United States but globally. As discussed below, gentrification is not without its benefits. A better neighborhood infrastructure is put in place through increased neighborhood investment, urban areas are re-born as the new residents move in and bring with them their own culture and there is the potential for a reduction in some types of crime. However these benefits come at a steep cost. Entire populations of people are displaced, the strong community support system relied upon heavily by the urban residents is removed, and the infrastructure that the poorer residents rely on for their specific needs is taken away.
although for the most of its residents, the biggest advantage is convenience of living, working, shopping in the same area. An example is living in the city, where your home is closer to the workplace, a shopping center on the way makes saving time and fuel easy. The advantage for the business-minded, looking to expand business, can find a real estate agent to locate property, a banker to finance it, contractor to build, even a great restaurant to wine and dine potential clients all in the same block downtown. They must do this in order to stay ahead of their competitors and be able to effectively diagnose and repair vehicles in a timely fashion. Innovations in the automotive industry also drive customers to bring their vehicles in to be worked on by automotive shops rather than working on them themselves.

The development also affected international and national tourists, who also had positive views of the development. The developments would result in better quality of service provided to them and more residential places to live in during their stay. Though with more modern buildings the older homes will be lost and so will much of its heritage, this is can be seen at a negative view by some tourist, but most would agrees that the developments are positive to an extent. Pyrmont’s identity is shaped by many factors and its heritage influences Pyrmont’s identity heavily.
