Sometimes people face a choice; to act, or not to act. “Do any actions you must do, since action is better than inaction; even the existence of your body depends on necessary actions.” (63). In this quote from the Bhagavad Gita, the author stresses that it is better to react to a certain situation than to do nothing. To keep yourself alive, you have to take action to take care of yourself or else your body will die. The author probably wanted to explain how important it is to be active in difficult circumstances where it becomes a choice. According to the author, it is better to act to get you what you need than to be inactive. This is a lesson that the writer would want anyone to learn. The author wants the audience to do something about problems they face. Didacticism is used in this excerpt. The author wants to teach the audience a lesson; Act when you have to, because action is better than inaction. Furthermore, this theme could be used in my life often. If at school, someone is being teased I could react and try to stop it, or I could just walk away, but it is smarter to act right away. I once came across this kind of situation where two of my friends were fighting about something very insignificant. I acted and prevented my two friends from becoming enemies. If I wouldn’t have stopped them they would have hated each other for a long time. Other people could also relate to this theme when they see someone get bullied online or at school. A good goal would be to try to take action upon tough situations when they appear, and prevent anything worse. Finally, this is a very accurate theme and I do agree because it tries to sway a person towards the better. The author clearly points out the theme and it is easily understood, therefore it is a very accurate theme. The theme of this excerpt is often conveyed in our society.
