She was then accepted to the University of Chicago in 1929 as an anthropology major in which she focused on dance. Dunham started her professional career when she formed a dance company named ‘Ballet Negre’. They had a debut performance at the annual Beaux Arts Ball in Chicago. In 1933 Dunham opened her first dance school in Chicago called The Negro Dance group. The dance school had great success which led her on to many successful years of dancing and choreographing.
For the last fifteen years of life, I have spent all my free time from family, and school focusing on one of my passion in life which is dancing. I started my first dance class at the age of three and it was a ballet class with Mrs. Helen as a teacher. I spent most of that class jumping up and down to my own beat of the songs. It must have been very nice for my parents to see me use part of my performance time during recitals looking for them in the crowd, especially after they spent hundreds of dollars on classes for me. This only lasted a few years though, because as I grew up so did my attention span and by the age of seven I really started to make dancing my main focus.

Little did we know, this cat character would become a world-wide phenomenon. Within those years, Hello Kitty matured as a character.

The winner of these contests would gain the title of Miss America, this has been a yearly event ever since. Then when the 1960’s came about pageants were becoming so popular that a ‘Little Miss America’ was started, originally open to 13 – 17 year olds but by the time 1964 came around there were over 35,000 participants which prompted an age division.
