The idea of a predictable and unpredictable life events involves generalisation. For some people issues like divorce or redundancy may be predictable, but other people may not have expected to be divorced or lose their job. Predictable life changes One event that is often predicted is when our children start school/nursery. There will be positive learning from this experience as the child will then learn to socialise with other children and make new friendships with them. The child will learn to share toys and develop a better vocabulary by listening to others talking.

We have age limits and restriction on many things, but why does are education system expect these young kids to make the right choices, ask for help and develop good study habits on their own. Our education system needs a new approach to resolve these issues. Teachers and parents need to be held responsible, for how well these kids do in school. We need come up with a new plan so these students aren’t left lost and helpless. Flunking students can be used as a positive tool by our education system.
It may also highlight underlying difficulties such as dyslexia or learning difficulties. The Teacher may feel it is necessary to report the concerns to the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) as further intervention could be required. The SENCo and teacher may then meet with the parents to discuss the concerns and agree the action they want to take. The school and parents may agree an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) which will set out targets to help the child progress. If, following assessment of this intervention, further help is needed; it may be decided to refer the child for an assessment by the Education Psychologist who can provide advice to the school on strategies to help the child.
Parents / carers have a right to know how their children are managing in school and indeed the sharing of information means that parents / carers can follow the same processes at home should they choose to. Parents / carers are far more involved in the setting now. They may spend time in the setting, share ideas and most importantly, share information about their child with the practitioners.
