Decreased social mobility is hard on the lower class because without being able to move forward, they are stuck in a cycle of poverty. Quality public education is their best ticket out of the lower class and rebuilding a middle class. The government has to realize that education is such an important tool and the US has been a leader in this since the 1930s, but they didn't stay leaders because their commitment is waning. Higher education is increasingly more necessary, and the costs and competition for spots in these schools are becoming more difficult for people stuck in a sub-par high school or who simply can't afford
It will help them understand the basics of financial planning as it is not common sense. This is true. Therefore financial literacy should be taught in high school because many students do not know enough about finances, which is why they tend to get into debt later in their life. Because of their lack of knowledge about finances they cannot save or plan their future retirement and they also tend to get in to money frauds and identity theft. Firstly, many students and adults do not know enough about managing their finances which is why they tend to get in to debt.
He goes on to say in the second misperception, “college graduates are finding it harder to get good jobs with liberal arts degrees”, but “the recession has no differentiated among major fields of study in its impact” (192). Ungar believes students who focus on one particular field of study do not learn necessities such as writing and literary texts, and this puts them at a disadvantage when compared to a liberal arts graduate. While long-standing jobs, such as doctors and lawyers, will not become extinct soon, liberal arts graduates have a better chance of employment in most areas. 95% of employers surveyed would give hiring preference to graduates with skills to contribute in the workplace. 74% would recommend a liberal arts education to a young person they know today, so they will be prepared for success in today’s global economy.
But during this economic recession, college students have been having a difficult time staying in the college path, especially working class students. The lack of moral support from their families prevents these unfortunate students to finish their college education. The increase of college tuition and limited financial aid are causing students to go into debt, making them hesitant whether they should keep studying or not. Also it’s preventing students from picking needed major but because the low paycheck they are not sure if they will be able to be sustained. But college drop outs also can able be due to the unequal college preparation given in high schools.
Retention, though, has proved to not help students academically. Another astonishing factor is that the more students retained, the more likely they are going to drop out in school. Also, most adults that have been held back are more likely to end up unemployed, living off of government assistance, or in jail than the students who were not held back. All promotion tests do is widen the gap between students without learning disabilities and those that are disabled (Finn, Petrilli 80-85). Furthermore, standardized testing is not a good indicator for college students’ ability to make good grades.
Our American education system is only postponing these students from entering the real world. These changes would force young adults to work with people of all ages, and no longer be constrained to the typical high school environment (Source 3). American high schools need to step up their game as they are merely falling behind. By abandoning the large emphasis on testing the students will learn the information for good and not just for the test. Incorporating more relevant information into the curriculum, will allow students to become more interested.
Many times, unfortunately, this situation lasts for the entire 180-day school year. What good is an "A" if the student isn't further developing their mind? What good is going to school and not learning anything because it is all so difficult? The answer is "no good." Students who need extra intellectual attention, whether it addresses their difficulties or their talents, shouldn't have to wait for summer to receive it; that would be "no good."
COLLEGE TUITION FEES Is the future of California important? In order to build a stronger California, a more educated work force needs to be supported, and college tuition increases must stop. State funding for California state universities has already dropped 30 percent in five years (Crawford). California should decrease the cost of college tuition because less affordable education causes a decrease in college enrollment, increased prices leads to more low quality jobs, and education should be paid for by wealthier taxpayers. Less affordable education causes a significant decrease in college enrollment.
Unfortunately, the FCAT does not evaluate student’s performance correctly due to students that fall under pressure. The pressure that student’s feel and encounter is also known as test anxiety. According to Channel 7 reporter Erica Rakow’s in the article “FCAT Stresses Students Out, she claims” The responsibility of passing both reading and math portion of the FCAT in 10 grade adds a stressful ambiance to students who really do not want to retake it as a junior (par.2). Rakow also points out “That responsibility includes promotions to the next grade, and future funding for their school. Some students get so worked up about the test they can’t even get through it (par.3).

The cost of textbooks is a rising problem for a multitude of students in college; furthermore, most people are barely able to produce the money to pay for tuition. Many students make due by waiting on loan money to come, asking their parents for funds, buying used books, or by renting books. Yet, these options do not produce solutions to an ongoing issue.
