Thirteen Virtues Benjamin Franklin is known as one of the great minds of the eighteenth century. He is often cited as America’s “first citizen” and is still considered to be America’s most effective statesman and representative. He was a major influence on thinking and society of that time and his thoughts and writings have gone on to influence every generation of Americans. He once said that “[h]e that speaks much is much mistaken” (Franklin), however, he is one of the most quoted men of his time. It seems that He could rarely be mistaken.
His grandfather started a law firm in which his father and uncle worked. His father is 82 and has never moved farther than a one mile radius of where he was born. John is 37 year old man and is unmarried. After graduating from college he found a job and where he worked for 10 years until he was laid-off. He is now going back to graduate school after being laid-off of his job. From my understanding, John has not been in a serious relationship which means that the area of “love and intimacy” needs to be explored. In the biography, it indicates that John is in search of his purpose in life and to feel whole.

In the next written assignment, I will adventure into the school life of Holden, and how the events in his family affected what he saw in school, and how he saw the world. In a quick view we see Holden pick up and tart read The Outsiders after a day of trying to contact his older brother, and it seems that the failure of this will bring the day to a low point that will continue throughout other activities, but its until he read the book that the melancholy passes over him regarding the situation between the three brothers, same as his own sibling. We see here a different side of Holden that we don’t see in the "Catcher in the Rye" until almost the very end of the book. I think if it had been added in the book, a scene with nature of this, the

Book Review: Claude-Anne Lopez My Life with Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin lived an extraordinary life filling the roles of various occupations - writer, inventor, businessman, musician, scientist, and diplomat, but most importantly, he was one of the original founding fathers of this new nation. Claude-Anne Lopez transcribed over thirty thousand documents pertaining to Benjamin Franklin at Yale University, and published three literary works regarding Franklin’s personal life, family life, and in her final composition, My Life with Benjamin Franklin, revealing personal dimensions of Benjamin Franklin other scholars might have missed. Initially, Claude-Anne Lopez had no interest in Benjamin Franklin’s life. Lopez accepted the transcribing job mainly because it provided her a form of a “part-time job that could be done at home to keep an eye on [her kids] .” It was not until she began transcribing, understanding, and relating to the Franklin papers, when she began to speak favorably and admirably when she states that she was finally viewing Franklin as a fellow being instead of just an icon and was lucky to be surrounded by thousands of documents pertaining to Franklin. Claude-Anne Lopez divides her book into four different parts – Some Facets of Franklin’s Personality, Enigmas and Tricks, His Country’s Envoy, and Back at Home – to help reveal the little-known aspects of Benjamin Franklin’s life and personality.
Washington Irving: A man in Literary History The idol of today pushes the hero of yesterday out of our recollection; and will, in turn, be supplanted by his successor of tomorrow.-Washington Irving. In Irving’s case this is very untrue. Washington’s success as a writer has lasted through the centuries. At one point in time Irving was one of the most popular people in America, and yet he is still looked up to in the literary world today. Irving’s early life was pretty eventful.
