A helpful start is to try to understand what is meant by the term study skills. Wikipedia (2014) defines study skills as “techniques to assess the individual to be an effective learner” and suggests that “any skill which boosts a students ability to study and pass exams can be termed as a study skill.” The word, skill, is further explained by Cottrell (2013) as “...a learned activity, something that can be developed through practice.” This suggests that anyone can successfully achieve a sound level of education. If skills such as time management, research skills, written skills and people skills can be learned, then perhaps everyone has the equal chance of success in their chosen topic of study. There are four different types of VARK learning styles, Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic. The VARK Learning assessment aims to determine the best way an individual learns, but can also be seen through as an individual’s personality, and behavior in everyday life. The VARK learning style assessment has assessed this student as a kinesthetic learner. Now that we know this students learning style we can go over the Kinesthetic Learning Style, this type of learner is known as the active learner. She learns best not from explanation or direction; but from simply just doing it.
I will create this environment through an engaging curriculum, personable interaction, topic orientated discussions, and group work. Since my license will include an endorsement in Special Education my classroom management will include a focus on flexibility defined as the ability to respond to the moods, emotions and the capabilities of my students on any given day. Meeting the needs of my students, based on their individual need, will be a crucial part of my classroom management structure. Reflecting on your practise is important as it can help you to focus on what you have done well and identify areas you may need to improve I.e. It may make you consider new approaches or make you consider learning more or beginning new courses in relevant subjects. 1:1 Reflective practice is a technique which you stop and think about your actions, carefully think through your decision making and relate it to what you do when in practice. Focus on the areas that could be improved on and evaluate your practice and learn new skills and ideas.
