9 September 2012 Being a good leader you have to have a good self-image. You cannot be a parent, a manager, a leader, a teacher, or a coach and be effective if you don ՝t have a good self-image. We’re going to make mistakes and oftentimes, we ՝re going to make many—but let s learn from them and let ՝s benefit from them. Do what’s right and avoid what ՝is wrong. It's that simple. Sometimes we blame everybody and everything around us to the point where it gets ridiculous. Do you agree or disagree with Lou Holtz's comments above? I agree you have to have a good self-image and a good self-esteem to be a good leader, parent, teacher or coach. Leaders motivate us weather it’s in the work place at home in the class room or in sports if you don’t have a good couch your team reflects on that and you don’t win the game. If you don’t have confidence in yourself, your team won’t have confidence in you either. Your self-image, or the mental picture you have of yourself, determines to a large extent the level of success you achieve as a leader. The level of success you achieve as a leader, of course, helps determine the level of success your organization will achieve. The more positive your self-image, the more opportunities you have to pursue success for yourself and your team. The following ten truths can help build your confidence and self-esteem as a leader: 1. Recognize that your self-esteem and self-image impact every aspect of your role as a supervisor. 2. Stop valuing your self-worth by comparing yourself to others. Set your own standards and then strive to achieve those standards. 3. Set realistic and obtainable goals. It is the fastest way to raise your self-esteem. When you set a goal and achieve it, you feel you have mastery over your environment. 4. Associate with others who have high self-esteem. You do have a choice as to whom you associate
