Behavioral and Social/Cognitive Approaches to Forming Habits Wayntrell Williams PSY/250 April1, 2013 Joseph Salande When reflecting on my very own personal behavioral personality theory, I found that I have a very bad habit of swearing or shall I say using vulgar language, even in a way of in embracing friends. However my behavior may sound abnormal but I must admit family and friends find it comforting when we are joking and teasing; and I deliver an insult or two in a tense situation. But nevertheless I can be offensive when the situation is not a joking matter. Furthermore I find this habit to be rooted from an environmental aspect of my life; from my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, and siblings every member in my family uses dies-tasteful words to some degree in their vocabulary. I am convinced that it is a cycle but however this can be broken. Yet I take pride in the fact that I do not curse my children, but I am very much ashamed of the fact that they have heard me behave in an unacceptable manner when conversing with others. I do take comfort in the fact that this is a habit that can be broken with practice; I do not think it defines my heart; on the other hand it definitely takes away from my personality. In some degree I think swearing is apart of every human being life; even if they are just thinking and not speaking it. Therefore this puzzles me on subject about parents and families who do or have not use profanity in front of their children, yet and still these kids grow up and use profanity as much a child like myself who grew up in that kind of environment. In a uncharacteristic kind of way I found when vulgar language is use on me I to find it comforting, depending on the situation. I know that this behavior is unethical, but common it is a way of life. What disturbs me is the fact that I tell myself this a bad habit I would like to
