Bead Bar Proposal The purpose of this document is to provide the Bead Bar organization with a detailed recommendation for its network infrastructure. I will review the current technologies in place, provide an overview of my recommendations for a network topology and architecture, and explain my recommendations for these structures and the pros and cons of each. The Bead Bar was founded in 1998 by Miriam S. in New Canaan, CT. Today, the company has grown to have three divisions: Studios, Franchises, and Bead Bar on Board. The Studios division organization has two offices in New York City, NY, one office in Long Island, NY, one in Washington, D.C., one in Boston, MA, and one in New Canaan, CT. The Franchise division sells supplies to five franchisees’ located in Kansas City, MO, Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, Washington and Miami, FL. Bead Bar on Board is designed for Cruise Ships and is set up to allow for easy travel. The Bead Bar has been advised to purchase 14 computers, two laptops, one PDA and two portable bar code scanners. The computers in the studios will have 2.8 MHz processors, 512 megabytes of RAM, a CD-RW drive, 80 GB hard drives, and 17” flat panel monitors. The computers for the managers will have the same specifications; however, they will have 17” CRT monitors instead. One laptop will be issued to the bead buyer for exclusive use for their time spent on the road purchasing beads; the other laptop will be used on an as-needed basis by management. Mitch, VP of Bead Bar on Board, will have a handheld computer, or PDA, because of his time spent on the road. Finally, two portable bar code readers will be purchased for use in their warehouses as part of the new inventory management system and a digital camera will be purchased for Miriam to use when she is developing marketing campaigns.
