My Lai Massacre Leading up to the massacre: In March 1968, Charlie Company of the American Division’s 11th Infantry Brigade received word that VC guerrillas had taken control of Son My. * Led by Lieutenant William L. Calley, the unit was sent to the village on a search-and-destroy mission on March 16. * At the time, morale among U.S. soldiers on the ground was dwindling, especially in the wake of the North Vietnamese-led Tet Offensive, which was launched on January 31 1968 * Army commanders had advised the soldiers of Charlie Company that all who were found in Son My could be considered VC or active VC sympathizers, and ordered them to destroy the village. * When they arrived, the soldiers found no Viet Cong, but rounded up and murdered hundreds of civilians–mostly women, children and old men–in an extremely brutal fashion, including rape and torture. * Calley was reported to have dragged dozens of people, including young children, into a ditch before executing them with a machine gun.
While the two snipers protected the one survivor, they were overcome and died in action, while the survivor who had been injured was taken hostage. After the marines had taken the target back to base they went back out to save their remaining comrades. There were many severe injuries during the rescue mission, one of which I could not watch due to the amount of gore involved in it (clamping the artery scene). The rescue mission continued into the night of which the air support could not tell who was on their side and who wasn’t. One marine threw a inferred detector of some sort, but missed and it could not be seen by the air support.
Quickly the Japanese defeated the British and took an uncountable number of prisoners who were sent to construct the Death Railway. On the 14th of February, the Japanese went into the Alexandra Barracks Hospital armed with weapons. They murdered anyone in their track, including the wounded and the nurses. Only five people survived that massacre until the 15th of February when the British surrender the most important city. Most of the Allied soldiers couldn’t change the results of the battle.
Marcus begins his tale of how he became a Navy SEAL and what they go through to become one. The training to become a SEAL is the hardest test to pass in our Navy branch. Out of the 164 people who attempted the training only 32 were remaining. After finishing his course Marcus moves on to complete a few more courses and some sniper classes. On June 27 Operation Redwing was a go, they sent SEAL team 10 to capture or kill a dangerous al Qaeda leader.
Persecutors are fighting hard to make sure the guilty party is punished to the fullest degree. This event led to a four daylong manhunt in search for two men leaving everyone on edge. The Boston Marathon, a nation wide event, turned into a tedious and intensive trial due to the bombings of the finish line on April 15, 2013 by Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. On Patriot’s Day April 15, 2013, the annual Boston Marathon began without any indications of an attack. Officials swept the area for bombs twice before the explosions or the marathon began; the second sweep occurred one hour before the bombs went off.
Urges Zuckerman to start a partisan attack that would a) reconnaissance (scouting out the region to locate Germans) and b) obtaining weapons. 2,000 Nazis came into the Ghetto to stop the resistance, and miraculously the Jewish fighters held out for four weeks. Germans lit and blew up many buildings. Some managed to escape threw sewers or stay hidden in the rubble and remain hidden in buildings, but more or less everyone was killed. Why has the Warsaw Ghetto become such a potent symbol of the Holocaust?
Many of the cities were occupied by Vietcong for many hours, or days. The US and South Vietnamese showed victory in regaining all the cities back, but they suffered many losses and lost almost all the American public support. The TET Offensive showed the American public the truth of Vietnam, and not what the Military wanted the people to hear. To many, the war was a lost cause, a waste of money and resources. Later, in March of 1968 the My Lai Massacre devastated a town of North Vietnamese citizens.
Initially the U.S media expressed little interest to the accusations, until photographic evidence emerged, exposing the violation of the prisoner’s human rights. U.S governmental agencies were reported to have been the abusers On January 2004 US Central Command informed the media that officers from duty and they were charged with dereliction of duty, maltreatment, aggravated assault and battery. These soldiers were also dishonorable discharged from service. In April of 2003 the prison complex was stripped of all it components. The floors, bathroom, and cells were cleaned and re-done, and a medical center was added.
The Battle of Mogadishu The Battle of Mogadishu went from a normal military kidnapping to a seventeen hour firefight for soldiers lives. Most Americans have the image of American soldiers being dragged lifeless through the streets of Mogadishu, half-naked, but the event itself was much more than that. It was an event filled with miscommunication, bad choices and American heroes fighting for their lives (Alex 1). The Battle of Mogadishu led to the deaths of thousands of Somali militia, which caused the United States to intervene leading to one of the United States Military’s largest aggravating military defeats. There were many events that took place that led up to the battle.
Last soldier will fight to the very end and a good example would be when the United States entered Somalia in 1993. In this conflict the soldiers started out on a routine training exercise, which resulted in a night long fire fight with thousands of armed Somalians. Eighteen U.S. soldiers and more than 500 Somalians lost their lives in this skirmish. In 2001 a movie by the name Black hawk down was made, which reenacted this conflict in Somalia. Conclusion In conclusion, I described how information is used and how it flows in the United States Army and the way information travels within an organization and how important it is to keep information safe from unauthorized users.
