Barriers to Effective Communication Tanya Hollington CJA/340 August 20, 2012 Heather Arambarri Barriers to Effective Communication The process of communication and exchanging words verbally or non-verbally to relay a message to another individual needs to be effective in order to have a proper response. Ensuring that the process of communication is understood it take two individuals. In communication between two individuals it is essential that the message relayed is understood by the recipient and the recipient gives adequate feedback that is pertinent to the message from the sender. Therefore communication is a two way process that is expected to get feedback from the recipient. There are several different components of communication that are essential. The sender or encoder is the individual that send the message to another individual. A sender can have several different ways to send a message such as verbally, non-verbally, through an email, visual aids, telephone etc. It will depend on who the message is intended for and what purpose and up to the sender to choose the form of communication that is best to relay the message. The message is the key information intended for another individual and this information should be clear. The recipient or decoder is the individual who the message is aimed for. How the recipient will respond will depend on how well the message was translate or conveyed from the sender. The feedback is the component of the communication that will indicate how well the information was translated and understood by the recipient. The purpose of the feedback is to get answer, an opinion or obtain knowledge of what the sender implied.
