Banning smoking in public places Throughout the years smoking has been one of the leading killers in North America and is effecting many people, even those who don’t smoke. People have been smoking in public places for decades while innocent people like me who don’t smoke are being effected, they say they’re only harming themselves but now it has been proven that smoking not only effects them but everybody around them and this needs to stop now. Smoking in public places causes a considerable amount of damage to numerous people and the government needs to pass a law to protect its citizens before it’s too late. Cigarettes are full of many harmful chemicals and if people knew what they were putting in their bodies they would probably think twice about it. According to the Mass. Department of Public Health there are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes, 51 of them are known to be carcinogenic. A carcinogen is something that causes cancer and cancer is a disease that often kills those who have it. Although smokers say they’re only harming themselves, we also to have to inhale those chemicals and it’s not fair to harm innocent people. Chemicals in cigarettes and cigarette smoke are known to cause not only cancer but also other serious health problems. In fact if a person ate one pack of cigarettes they would die. The second hand smoke we inhale is as dangerous or more dangerous than the smoke actual cigarettes users take in. Secondhand smoke, also known as environmental tobacco smoke, is a mixture of the smoke given off by the burning of a cigarette, pipe, or cigar and the smoke exhaled from the lungs of smokers.
