Nadine Zaiour Sarah Stewart ENC 1101 23 October 2012 Bad Romance Lady Gaga’s single Bad Romance shares the main message that expresses that she would be willing to do anything and everything, even self-sacrifice, in order to acquire fame. Throughout the music video, Gaga is shown as a disposed victim in today’s music and media’s sketchy industry. According to the lyrics, Lady Gaga’s dream is to live in a ‘bad romance’ world with the satanic and devilish effects of the music industry. Even though she knows it has it flaws and defects, she still wishes to be part of this elite group no matter what. In a way, the correct term to describe her would be a fame devourer; she lives off of the fame. Bad Romance was first performed as a live acoustic version (I know shocking) on Saturday Night Live October 3, 2009. The first time the song actually premiered was on the finale of Alexander McQueen’s Fashion Week show on October 6th, 2009 and then once again on Radio One October 19th, 2009. On October 19th, 2009 the digital single of Bad Romance was finally released but exclusively in the USA and Canada; the next day it hit number one on both American and Canadian iTunes charts! Finally on October 27th, the song was released to the rest of the world. Bad Romance is part of Lady Gaga’s album The Fame Monster which was released November 18, 2009. The Fame Monster is subjective to several genres including pop, rock and gothic music. The album was also clearly stimulated by the fashion world; it is obvious due to Gaga’s selection of outrageous costumes and clothing. This album is all about the darker side of fame, including love, sex, and alcohol. The words of the song express the fact that all of these things are evil through a monster metaphor.
