Recently abandonment of children is a felony in most states and Benjamin's story clearly shows a crime. "The only common thread is that these people appear to be desperate and totally ignorant of what could be done for their babies," said Michael Kharfen, spokesman for the Administration for Children and Families (qtd. in Sussman). But parents refusal growing their infant shouldn't be approached as a crime if they voluntarily bring him to the
To Whom It May Concern: Do you want your children and students getting an extra dosage of vulgar language, sexually rated scenarios, and issues that are awful enough to cause depression? In the book The Catcher in the Rye all of these issues are present. Everything from filthy language written on walls, to the purchase of a prostitute, all of this is present in this novel. This book is not helping solve the issues that teenagers are facing in these days. That is why it should be banned from schools across the country.
Luna Williams English 100 02/10/2014 Just Whom is This Divorce “Good” For? Divorce is a huge topic a lot of parents think about when they feel that there spouse is no longer compatible with them and also the fact that it’s not working out for reason only they will know. It may just be the fact that two people that were deeply in love just feel out of it because of no connection anymore. In the article “Just Whom Is This Divorce” Good” For? “Bullying is a big problem that effects millions of students, and it has everyone worried, not just the kids on it’s receiving end” (Lyness 1). Bullying does not just affect kids, but the parents too. It affects the parents because a lot of their children begin to be afraid attending school. In the novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, Melinda was affected by being bullied lead her to think about suicide, scared of coming to school, and victims like Melinda begin to not care about school and fail. Melinda was affected by being bullied and led to many things and one of them is thinking about suicide.
Most students today know little to nothing about Vietnam thanks to the lack of photographs, as well as coverage. Some of the students Loewen had interviewed did not even know who fought in the war. A student of Loewen’s even wrote that showing the images of Vietnam during the war (specifically of the naked little girl running from the napalm attack) would completely change a student’s view of the war. However, because textbooks choose to leave out these stirring images, students still do not have the right outlook or sufficient knowledge of what happened in
Sex education however provides different methods to prevent having STD’s or giving birth which happens without a basis of how to use protection. If parents want to only drill abstinence into a kids mind it’s the same as saying don’t eat candy, “why can’t I eat the candy” then eventually the wrappers in the trash and without having the right idea about it you have a kid with no fear to eat the next piece of candy until they are too sick to eat another piece and I mean have sexual diseases or being pregnant. Sex education will prepare them only for when they want to make that decision but will clarify that having no sex is the only way to truly prevent any accidents. Classes are a professional environment where kids can truly take in everything there hearing and take what they learn seriously, given the environment with your parents staring into your eyes like
In Greta Christina’s essay, “Are We Having Sex Now or What?,” Christina contemplates the definition of sex, and provides counter examples to why her proposed definitions are invalid. Interestingly, rather than blatantly trying to present the readers with a definition, Christina recounts her past and tries to determine which of her personal sexual encounters, whether with men or women, were considered sex. Then, she tries to formulate a definition that is able to describe all the times she had sex. Although she is able to come up with a couple different definitions, she ultimately ends up where she started—still searching for an answer to her question. One of the definitions that Christina presents is that sex is the acknowledgement and sexual enjoyment of at least one of the individuals who partakes in the sex that he or she just had sex.
Yet I believe that this book, “The Chocolate War” by Robert Cormier, should be kept in schools to be read by teenagers. Many people believe that this book should be banned for the fact that it talks about bullying and violence. In a couple parts of the story, Jerry is beaten up. There are also multiple parts where the Vigils or Janza bully a kid. But that isn’t so bad that we should ban it.
The Puritan community in The Crucible was vulnerable in many ways and susceptible to irrational and panicky accusations of the Salem Witch Hunts because of their strict and constricting ways. The children in the community are treated very poorly and less than everyone else in the town. As the Salem Witch Hunts were essentially started by the children the fact that they were treated as lesser beings contributed to the communities demise. “He (Reverend Parris) regarded them as young adults, an until this strange crisis he, like the rest of Salem, never conceived that the children were anything but thankful for being permitted to walk straight, eyes slightly lowered, arms at their sides, and mouths shut until bidden to speak,” (Miller 3). Miller foreshadows the Witch Hunts to come.
Women in Northern Uganda are constantly raped but they are never allowed to do an abortion when they became pregnant. Many of the children become homeless because they leave them in the streets (Elisabeth Schauer and Thomas Elbert). Due to these struggles in such young age, children are desperate for some identity. Groups like Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam use their past to make them join their group like they did for Ida. Psychological damage before even becoming a soldier due to their poor and unhealthy Many girls join Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to protect themselves from economic hardships and rape but the military or any civil war groups cannot protect them from the dangers of their own country.
