“If I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again”. Another example of Atticus’s’ courage is his ability to raise his children even when he is full engaged in Tom Robinson’s case. He still has the time to raise his children and teach them the right morals like “You never really understand a person a person until you consider things from his point of view”. He teaches his children to respect themselves and others, try to do what’s right, and what true courage is. Atticus defines true courage as when you fight for what is right regardless of whether you win or lose and demonstrates it multiple times in the novel.
He demonstrates his courage by taking on the case of Tom Robinson knowing that he was defeated before he began. He was also putting himself and his children in danger but he did, as it was the right thing to do. He was courageous when he shot the rabid dog when the sheriff could not. Also, when he heard of the mob coming for Tom, he went to the jailhouse to protect him knowing he could be killed or beaten as a result. Atticus Finch stood up for what he believed was right no matter the consequences.
Basically, the author of All Quiet on the Western Front brings out a theme of the brutality of war through Paul and the other men that are facing the hardships. Every day when they were at war they stayed alert to survive. However, war wasn’t only about trying not to get killed; many emotions were involved as well. The idea of not seeing your loved ones everyday was a major thing they had to overcome. They had to stay strong for themselves and they comforted each other.
But whoever proves his loyalty to the state – I’ll prize that man in death as well as life.” Here, Creon is saying that whoever goes against his law would suffer more than death. The audience’s first impression on Creon is that he is very idealistic, just and proud. It also shows that he is very determined to his own law. Creon’s personality is having positive overview until line 203, where he says, “So I rate him now, I always have. And whoever places a friend above the good of his own country, he is nothing: I have no use for him.” This speech hints Creon’s stubbornness, since he views loyalty to his country is more important than anything.
• As a father Atticus can be said to be a great father. He is generally loving and caring towards his children, he guides them through right and wrong always, and he tries to make them morally strong as he is. He shows intelligent parenting, when Scout starts swearing, Atticus doesn’t punish her or tell her not to, knowing that this would just make her swear more, instead he leaves her to keep swearing until she herself realizes it’s the wrong thing to do. He does not do it because he is careless or it does not matter to him what his children do, he
Outside of the Maycomb jail Atticus defends Tom Robinson from the group of men by standing in front of the jail-not allowing anyone to get to Tom Robinson. This is an act of courage because Atticus continues to protect him even though he is fully aware that he is standing in the face of danger. Another example of this can be seen when Atticus speaks for Tom Robinson in court, Her father saw it, and the defendant has testified as to his remarks. What did her father do? We don’t know, but there is circumstantial evidence to indicate that Mayella Ewell was beaten savagely by someone who led almost exclusively with his left.
Michele is able to make the most of these unusual and horrifying circumstances placed upon him within the novel by facing them regardless of the fear he contains. Michele has to face fears both imaginative and real in order to stand for what he believes is right. Michele, the very compassionate and caring central character does not let his fears override what is right. The first example is demonstrated when Michele has to face his first real fear of standing up to Skull, the leader of the gang who is a very authoritarian character that likes to give orders. Skull is known to turn nasty when people did not listen to him, ‘Skull was the oldest in the gang.
The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero uses his fear, projects it onto his opponent, while the coward runs". This is one thing that kept Bozella going,he knew he was not a coward. Bozella was not only a man with a lot of hope but he also had perseverance. He never gave up when they continued to trial him guilty. He continued to keep trying to gain his freedom which rightfully was his. Bozella is now a great inspiration to a lot of people. He is a great example of why never to give
Evans was revered by his team for his physical strength, but this was seemingly his only asset. He was mentally weak; he could not deal with disappointment and suffering in an effective manner .This was shown by his aggressive and pessimistic response to the realisation that the Norskies had beaten them to the pole: “I’d like to bash their heads in”p18, “And all for nothing. For nothing”p21. He did not believe that the group could make it back to camp, even though Scott, the captain, believed they could. “We’ll never get there” (Evans) p22.
What it means to be a Hero One automatically thinks of superman when the word hero is mentioned, but it doesn’t take a life to be saved for someone to be recognized as a hero. Some of the greatest heroes are those who don’t expect the fame and glory for a good deed done. It takes a lot to be courageous, especially to be courageous in all situations; even the bad. Helen Keller lived a very tough life with no ability to see or hear but still she found a way to get passed her disabilities and rose above the boundaries that were put in front of her. She is a hero to all those who see no light at the end of the tunnel, to those who think they can’t persevere, but really, little do they know they can.
