Assignment 206 Task B Bi 'Agreed ways of Working' The policies and procedures written by the employer set out how you should provide care and support for others and how you should deal with specific issues in your work setting. These should include policies and procedures relating to health and safety, equal opportunities, confidentiality, data protection, supervision, waste management, moving and handling, handling medication, and security and safeguarding. These should identify the general approach that the company takes towards an issue, they should incorporate all of the legal requirements affecting care work and should reflect the safest and most effective ways of carrying out particular tasks. It is essential that you understand and follow these policies and procedures to ensure that you are working in ways agreed by your employer. The duties and responsibilities of your role as a social care worker should also be set out in your job description.
Ensure suitable management is in place to provide adequate welfare facilities. Advise H.S.E of the project Investigate the capabilities of the chosen contractor and ensure they are fully capable of carrying out the work in a way to conform with health and safety regulations.
1.3 Standards reflect the changes in the profession such as emphasis on personalised, quality service. I always follow the code of practice which is ; • You must always protect the rights and promote the interests of the service user and carer • Establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the service users and carers • Promote the Independence of the service users while protecting them as far as possible from danger • Respect the rights of the service user while seeking to ensure that their behaviour does not harm themselves or other people • Uphold public trust and confidence in social care services • You must be accountable for the quality of your work and take responsibility for maintaining and improving your knowledge and skills. I follow all these by treating a service user as an individual , treating them and maintaining a person dignity ,values , along with allow an servicer to make informed choices and by the service they receive ,Adhering to all policies and procedures ,communicating in an appropriate way . Letting a service user take risk and help them manage any risk .I always take responsibility for my work and training and getting help and advice when needed . 1.4 A persons own beliefs and values could affect working practice as it could result in neglect of that persons dignity and respect taking away the persons control and you could be breaking codes
Safeguarding and protecting the service user is very important part in the care sector I have a duty of care to the service user and to the organisation to make sure that any accidents, concerns or incidents that may take place and put the individual or you at risk to be reported to my line manager using the appropriate method as stated in the employees handbook. I also have to ensure that all daily activities and written based records are accurate and are up to date. The sharing of information with other professionals involved in the provision of care is also very important. I liaise with other professionals from different disciplines. These include people such as: Social Workers, Physiotherapist and Nurses etc.
Should an employee not gain knowledge of any new information on practices, they are liable for any future errors, which could lead to a potential safeguarding issue bought upon them. An employee that continually improves on their knowledge of the sector, policies, procedures, the organisation in which they work for and their job role, is showing a great work ethic and an ideal role model for other colleagues and team members. An employee working within the health and social care sector should also be aware of their personal abilities and where professional development is needed. An employee should ensure that they are fully trained in their particular job role and should there be any changes to their role or the organisation, an employee should include themselves in the re-training process. For example, my role as a Care Supervisor has currently undergone a split in the role, bringing on a support supervisor to take on half of the role's daily tasks.
P3) Explain risk assessment processes in the context of everyday activities in health and social care. It is required by the law that every care organisation need to carry out the formal risk assessment for their care setting. Risk assessment helps to determine the possibility of potential hazard in relation to given situation or any existing recognised threat. The aim of a risk assessment process is not only to focus on keeping resident safe but they should be person centred and promote independence, choice and autonomy. It should be reviewed regularly and all the members of staff need to have a clear understanding of the risk assessment process.
Insuring the working environment is safe and providing correct welfare facilities. As an employee it is your duty to learn the correct procedures regarding potential hazards in the work place and follow the set out procedures in place, to not only protect yourself from risks but also others around you. If the above regulations are not followed correctly by an employer or an employee it could lead to potential legal action and court intervention. Within my role as a health care assistant in antenatal clinic it is vital that I follow these regulations as I am dealing with patients and their families on a day to day basis. I need to ensure that when they come into the clinic area that it is free from any potential hazards that could cause harm, whether that is a trip hazard or sharps hazard.
This includes acting in the best interests of the patients and ensuring their health, safety and welfare. I must be observant to make sure my knowledge and skills are updated on a regular basis. I must observe all areas of confidentiality at all times. I must also have the confidence to voice any concerns I may have. I must make sure I have access to available resources and equipment that will assist me in my role.
Management ensures all employees are following organizational regulations and all kinds of operations are conducting in prescribed way. They make sure health and safety for the employees and clients. Employers will employ effective, energetic and experienced people as managers. They can employ specialists as well. Health and safety is very concerning issue in health and social care setting.
At Peace Haven House it is our duty to maintain a good standard of practice whilst ensuring that diversity, equality and right procedures are correctly followed. We must ensure that everyone has the right to be included and to be treated equally regardless of their background, race or gender . Everyone should be accepted and respected in a professionally dignified manner, according to the health and safety standards within the health and social care service. As health and social care practitioners, it is important to make sure that our behaviour at work is highly professional at all times. We must adhere to the policies and procedures of our setting.
