Asses the roll of crime prevention in deterring criminal behaviour. No matter what culture is examined, crime is evident in all of them, it is for this reason that the governing body attempt to implement crime prevention in order to make society safer place, as well as cutting the cost needed to prosecute criminals. The two main categories of crime prevention are situational and social crime prevention. These two categories break down into many sub-categories, most notably CCTV as well as legal education . The first, and most apparent category of crime prevention is situational crime prevention. Situational crime prevention refers to creating situations where it is difficult for people to break the law. The most common, and Often controversial form of situational prevention is the instillation of CCTV cameras. Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) are used to monitor and record images of what takes place in specific locations in real time. These cameras are usually implemented in high traffic public areas such as train stations and shopping centres. As well as major public areas, they are also put in dark, high crime areas such as parks or ally ways. The use of CCTV cameras is meant to deter criminals from participating in criminal acts, although their effectiveness as well as moral acceptance is questioned my many commentators. Despite the questions regarding its effectiveness, a study undergone in 2012 shows that the implication of 25 CCTV cameras saw 16 of them successfully lower crime rates, 7 resulted in no change and the final 2 saw an increase in crime. David Brooks, CCTV camera expert, states "People always expect that CCTV is going to do more than it's actually designed for... We tend to look at CCTV as a detection tool, but there's no real detection going on." Brooks' comments, accompanying with the results of the study show that although CCTV may
