She is by far one of the most influential people in my life, her hard-work and optimism are just two of the things I admire most about her. Unfortunately my grandmother, had limited knowledge of the war itself, but had extensive amounts of familiarity with the social aspect of the sixties. My grandmother was 19 at the time of the war, but without attending college she had little to no familiarity with what was going on at the time. She quoted, “The closest I ever got to knowing discrete information about the war was when it came on the radio.” However, she was able to tell us how racism affected her life personally. She mentioned how she wasn’t able to use certain bathrooms, water fountains, stores, and even gas
She was a beautiful yet very petite girl, she stood at 4’11’’ and weighed no more than 90 pounds. “Photographs...failed to do justice to her looks.” Bonnie Parker grew up dreaming about having true love and romance like in the movies, which could be the reason why she dropped out of school and rushed into marriage with Roy Thorton at the young age of 16. This marriage did not go as well as she had planned, and Thorton ended up in jail. Parker then moved on to live with her grandmother. Her dream of finding true love appeared to be over, that was until one night at a friend’s house when she was nineteen, she met Clyde Barrows, who was twenty one.
There are few female authors that have had an impact on literature as great as that of Willa Cather. Not only was she an exquisite author, but she broke through into writing during a time when few female authors were successful. Her life, which was directly influential to her writing, was of a simple nature. However, she was able to over come a drab, mundane life, and turn her experiences into stories that would be enjoyed by many generations. Willa Siebert Cather was born in her maternal grandmother's home in 1873 in the western region of Virginia (Robinson).

You could say he embodied all that Roo did in his prime, before he injures his back. For the women of Lawler’s work, each bring a sense of individual femininity to the play while possessing qualities of conservatism and public opinion. In the 1950s it was unlikely that a woman would refuse to marry, yet Lawler ignored the traditional boundaries in the character Olive. Olive is a strong woman yet immature in her hopes and beliefs. Her ignorance and dependency on those 6 months of the year when she is taken care of by a man, is deluded and unlikely of a woman in that era.

But hosting a talk show wasn't all Winfrey had in mind. Although untrained as an actress, she was nominated for an Oscar for her powerful performance as a slave in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. (Two decades later Winfrey produced a musical version on Broadway.) She created Harpo productions to house her show and to produce socially relevant films. She also launched a monthly book segment on her show and her selections immediately became best sellers.
There were many Americans in support of Prohibition during the early 1900’s. One chief influential group were the woman and children who were dealing with abusive, alcoholic husbands and fathers on a daily basis. Women did not have as much freedom back then as they do now and therefor were unable to do anything about the alcohol related abuse that their children and they received. During that time period, divorce was not much of an option for women. Prohibition was their only hope for a better life.
