The movie plot of Slumdog millionaire mirrored the suggestions made by Aristotle. He believed that the plot is the most important element of tragedy. Tragedy according to Aristotle is a “process of imitating an action which has serious implications, is complete, and possesses magnitude; by means of language which has been made sensuously attractive, with each of its varieties found separately in parts; enacted by the persons themselves and not presented through narrative; through a course of pity and fear completing the purification of tragic acts which have those emotional characteristics”. Without a plot a tragedy cannot exists. This is because the plot is an action created to be imitated by characters. These series of events according to Aristotle, is an imitation of life. Aristotle also believed that the plot should be structured in such a way that it would gain the audience‘s attention at all times. The makers of this film understood the importance of the plot. They used this understanding very effectively to engage the audience and tell their story. The plot of this multi-award winning movie was created as a whole. Aristotle believed that these series of events should have a beginning, middle and an end. What he really meant was that each event should flow into each other to make a complete hold. Therefore there should be no abrupt or unnecessary event. He believed that there must be a natural flow of events. This movie is telling the story of a poor Indian boy who’s troubled passed gave him the knowledge to win 20 million rupees. The story began with a question which main purpose was to introduce the story and engage the audience. This question was “ Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 rupees. How did he do it?
