When a topic such as this one has a broad amount of variables, it is impossible to simply link these problems to the wealth of a family and race. In the article, “American Dream Not American Reality”, author Jonathan Turley states, “People from lower income family or different race than white tent to fail on reaching their American Dream and face the reality because they have lack of economic support from the family”. This is the simple statement that shows people from poor family will result in failure. What Turley must understand is that it can be extremely difficult for people from low income family to achieve their American Dream without any education and economic support. They must spend more time to study and work as a full time to pay for their school fees.
I will be looking at sources to see if this was true. Source 1 states that this may be true for some people but not others. It was good for businessmen, speculators, retiring company directors. For them the source agrees that they never had it so good. However the source goes on to criticise the statement saying that it isn’t good for “widowed mother with children, the chronic sick, 400,000 unemployed and millions of pensioners without pensions.” Therefore I can infer that the source doesn’t agree with the statement as it states that there is a clear majority of people who don’t benefit within this time period, mainly the people who are benefitting are from the upper classes.
Also, many experts say that it fell because of the lack of heart the people had to the Empire, the rise of Christianity, it was too immense to govern and protect, the decline of the economy and jobs, the army being made up of mostly foreigners, and outside invaders. Thus, one can say that the Empire collapsed more internally than externally. The first reason why the Western Roman Empire fell was because the people that lived in it had a lack of heart in the Empire. People didn’t believe the Empire was worth saving anymore. As Strayer, Gatzke, and Harbison state in their textbook The Course of Civilization states “The basic trouble was that very few inhabitants of the empire believed that the old civilization was worth saving… the overwhelming majority of the population had been systematically excluded from political responsibilities.
Social Trust is the idea of ‘faith in people’. Today less Americans believe they can rely on their neighbours and people around them than ever before. Putnam view is this is due to the declining numbers joining group activities and never fully explores other reasoning for this, for instance the media. Most news broadcasts lead with negative reports, as bad/devastating news grabs more attention. The medias delivery of a negative viewpoint is bound to have an impact on it subscribers, their view of the world and society could become more
Americans pursued their American Dream every day. However, many didn’t have enough money or a well enough paying job to reach their “American Dream”. Just as America was reaching new heights economically, it soon came crashing down rapidly. Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby is a perfect portrayal of the failure of the American Dream
Sometimes the fight results in divorce or separation because there was no one to make them understand the basics of a relationship. An extended nuclear family is made up of the parents and their children; own or adopted, living with their relatives. This may be due to a variety of reasons such as : not enough income for the high standards of living we have today. Sometimes
The condition of the house is very shabby and dirty. It shows that George can’t provide Myrtle with the wealth she needs to be part of the American dream. Therefore she betrays the bonds of marriage and has an affair with Tom and gets killed showing that the American dream is only an illusion of happiness as I’ve said before. The illusion of the American dream is big, powerful and sought out for but it isn’t what everyone else makes it out to be. Just because you have money doesn’t mean your necessarily happy because money cant buy happiness.
America is always looking for a way to improve its society. Anything that we can do to help our environment or other outstanding problems is usually done. The key fact for this is that Americans are never satisfied; there is always room for improvement, which is why we remain a super power. An article I found on America being in decline states, “The only reason the U.S. is still in the running is because of our forceful way of handling problems”. This statement was ignored, because it shows how negative some people can be, and I completely disregarded this
Many people argue that there is no longer any such thing as a typical American family. This is true, because such things as cultures and lifestyles are different. Those things make it impossible to generalize about the typical American family. Back in the old days, the typical American family did exist but it has been changed by time. People now want freedom more than anything in their lives, and to be able to do their own things.
They can feel like you don’t listen to their needs or wants. Feeling unworthy of your love. Creating these problems with our children will not allow them to grow into the well-adjusted adults that we need. Times have changed so much since my generation was growing up. Parents were different back then, somewhat less filtered.
