Are You Smarter Than Your Phone? I-Phone or Blackberry? Facebook or Twitter (maybe both)? 500 texts a month or unlimited text messaging? Those are just a few of the options that the technological society has to offer these days. Many people use expensive mobile phones and have lots of applications for them, such as Facebook and/or Twitter, to stay in touch with friends and family and just to keep up with the latest trending technology. But is all this technology at our disposal a good thing? Smart phones today are probably the biggest investment among teenagers because there’s so many things that a person can do with a smart phone. Applications and full keyboards for smart phones help the users take more of an interest in the phone that they purchased. In the article entitled What’s the matter with kids today?, written by Amy Goldwasser, it reads that“…33 million Americans…are fluent in texting, e-mailing, blogging, IM’ing and constantly amending their profiles on social network sites” (1). The text shows that a large portion of the American population is turning to smart phones to carry out their everyday business and especially social lives. Social media is a big part of the teenager lifestyle. Facebook helps assist different people keep track of his or her friends, associates, and anyone else they are acquainted with who has a profile. Twitter is also a good tool for social networking. Twitter lets people follow other people everywhere they go. I myself have both a Facebook and a Twitter. I have cut down my time on Facebook recently but Twitter is a different story. I constantly send “tweets” from my own smart phone—via text message. One thing about both Facebook and Twitter being on a smart phone is that, if totally aware of the advantages, one could become addicted to the social networking.
