I believe that managers’ effectiveness often depends on their styles of leadership, that is, their ability to influence others, either formally or informally. I think the style of leadership is entrepreneurial leadership. Entrepreneurial leaders are different depending on their personalities, but they are generally enthusiastic and passionate about their work and tend to take initiative. The leadership of L.L. Leadership Style An effective leader generates connections between associates of the organization for the purpose of increasing performance and accomplishing exceptional results (Sullivan & Decker, 2009). An effective leader will encourage members of the organization to collaborate by delivering motivation and direction to attain organizational goals. “One thing that all leaders have in common is one or more followers. If no one is following, one cannot be leading” (Vroom & Jago, 2007, p. 1). A leader can achieve organizational goals by interpersonal skills to persuade, influence, and guide others.
Servant leadership is all about creating teamwork, community, and allowing for others to be involved in decision making, strong ethics, and caring behavior. These are important factors as well as encouraging personal growth among the staff (Spears, 2005). The leader and the servant are usually thought of as opposites however, the servant leader model has shown how the two opposites are intertwined to create a model that teaches about how to put others first and promote the sharing of decision making (Spears, 2005). This model focuses on the positive impact on the employees as well as the community, rather than worrying so much about profit (Spears, 2005). There are many different forms of leadership styles and each differs greatly from the other. There is no one way to motivate employees; each individual employee has to make the choice to figure out what motivates him or her. To be a successful manager or supervisor, you have to understand that you can’t teach your employee’s to be motivated, but you have to create an environment that encourages and promotes employee motivation. Managers must use positive motivational techniques consistently and timely in order for them to be effective. With Citigroup’s organizational culture it has guided employees toward the behaviors and attitudes that have put the company at risk. The company must revert to what is important that is the customers and focus on the core values of the organizations, and the vision of the organization. To change Citigroup’s organizational culture there needs to be a shared responsibility among the leaders of the company, managers, and employees. By having a shared responsibility will make Citigroup’s organizational culture more effective and productive. Having shared responsibility will allow each employee to achieve or accomplish his or her full potential, and acting with the greatest level integrity when dealing with one another, and customers.
Leadership, while a varied and multifaceted concept, shares characteristics across all situations regardless of the business or the people involved. In all instances, leadership involves the ability to influence, inspire, and support others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of their respective organizations (Miner, 2002).
