Application of Technology and Its Effects On Society Terrorism, a word rarely known before 9/11 and used previously, has now become a name tag frequently used by the media. In my opinion, terrorism is a new “ideology” of the early twentieth century. It has gained importance worldwide after the 9/11 attack in US. A nation on one hand, known for its financial and technological might, and on the other hand, it's known for its foundation on principals of individual liberties. While both conspiracy theorist and proponent of war have their own arguments, the tragedy of 9/11 and the responses to it have caused a deep dent in individual liberties in the US. Though, as Nunn suggested, the technology is coming out as a winner and is gaining the importance in the name of war against terrorism both in the US and internationally (Nunn 454). The main purpose of this essay is to present the fact that technology is both friend and foe in the fight against terrorism and crime. It has both positive and negative effects on our society and especially on mankind. The occurrence of 9/11 and the increment in crime rate have provided opportunities to private and military sectors in the US by increasing the demand for security technology products. Privacy of the individual is on the perils of law enforcement officers behaviors. In the following paragraphs, readers will be able to find out how technology is involved in war against terrorism accompanied with its good or bad effects on society. According to Samuel, the U.S. Law Enforcement Department has appointed two new technologies in the war against terrorism and crime.
