Discuss the ways Anys Gowdie has had an affect on Anna Frith. The following aretext references to Anys: p39; pp48-55; p56; p83f; pp90-95; pp122-123; p135; p146; p268; p303 Discuss actually means what it says! viz., "To examine the proposition or statement in the question, arguing and considering evidence that can be used to support your opinion." Ask yourself, what affect has Anys had on Anna? I gave you all the pages relevant to Anys. You should look them up to get evidence and develop your opinion. Before I looked at your essays, I actually wrote down and summarised what the text had to say. So, let us develop a few ideas from the passages with the pages for you to refer to later. 1. Anna heals anyone who needs her help even Aphra's family. Aphra "approached Anys with a mixture of fear and awe, and perhaps some envy." p39 She "knows more than we do" Aphra's sees her as having "too much pride...for an orphan" and is jealous of her sexual attractiveness. SO, The point I would get from this section is that Anna is impressed by Anys. Specifically, she is impressed by her willingness to help others. She realises that the knowledge she has is something to be grateful for (although at his stage she is not willing to pursue it) and she accepts that there is something positive about Anys. This leads on to a second point. 2. Anys has pride but pride in the positive sense - she has self-pride. Even as a child she was self-possessed (see p52f) which the shy Anna finds admirable. Anys is able to say what she thinks. Her self-possession enables her to defy convention ( there is a great quotation on p55 about this!) something she was able to do as
