Siena is surrounded by a thick brick wall, therefore, there are several gates, through which the city can be reached. The most prominent is the above mentioned Porta Camollia the best defended of all Siena's gateways because of its position leading directly to Florence. Its comic, zebra-patterned dome on the top of the hill can be recognized from a great distance. One of the dome’s walls stands separately, about two hundred steps from the church, because of an incomplete construction, but in spite of this in a grotesque and compelling way. Altough, there is something that surpasses even this peculiarity.
Candice Rice AH20A T/TH 10/21/10 My visit to the Cantor art museum was exciting and inspirational. The first thing I noticed as I pulled up was the beautiful Rodin sculpture collection outside. The sculptures were massive, yet lifelike. I was eyeing one of the torsos on the sculpture and the detail was amazing. All the cuts and rips were impeccable.

ROMAN ARCHITECTURE My fascination with Roman architecture begins with the Romans ability to achieve such greatness and sustainability within their work without the means that we have in our design world today such as industrial machinery and Technology. The work of the Romans is design ingenuity. They were able to create such huge rooms with such high ceilings, as well as so many different aspects within one building, for example the Colosseum. Within this building Romans played many types of games and held shows including beast hunts and gladiator combats. Oval in shape, it had incredible interconnecting corridors that would lead to six tiers of seats, thus allowing a huge audience to sit within its walls.
Benin is well known for its brass sculptures and plaques. Their function was to please the ruler by recording great moments in the nation’s history and thus displaying his power. For example, the ruler had his great achievements recorded on plaques which would then adorn the walls of his residence. A famous example of these is the plaque Oba with the Europeans, made in the 16th century CE, although the first plaques were made in the 13th century CE. There are many interpretations of the symbolism behind the this plaque.
ideas of Sir Norman Foster from museums and banks to airports and bridges, from apartment buildings to the reichstag, in the past years Sir Norman Foster's beautiful and efficient designs have dramatically changed the character of cities and landscapes around the world. a common philosophy connects all of them, starting with social responsiveness and the use of natural resources. some of foster's work has sparked controversy , but he has never ignored a chance to rewrite the rules of architecture, be it by tackling audaciously huge construction projects or by designing wind turbines and partly-solar-powered electric buses.
