Like I was saying earlier the most devastating thing to ever happen in my family, is that my parents both went to prison on some drug charges. My mother was involved in it even though she didn’t have anything to do with the it. My father was the one doing the drugs but luckily my god father bailed her out and that’s how I was born in Philadelphia, PA. I used to Show a great deal of hate towards my father when I found out that he was the reason that my mother has problems getting a decent job like her other family members in America. Then later on in my life I learned to love and forget, also that people make mistakes I just have to learn from their mistakes
Bryan Rodriguez Professor Bailey History 1302: American History February 8, 2013 “Passing Strange” “Passing Strange,” was a set of biographies written about a nineteenth century explorer named Clarence King, and a former slave named Ada Copeland Todd King. The story was written to show a darker side of Clarence that biographers did not like to discuss. Ada married King believing that he was a black Pullman reporter, who went by the name James Todd. Making up a false life seemed to be the only way Clarence could marry the woman he loved, while protecting his public image. The two were happily married for thirteen years and had five children together, but their marriage was kept a secret from the world.
She teaches Douglass his A B Cs and began to teach him words until her husband becomes aware of this abnormal treatment and thus bringing about Mrs. Auld’s transformation from a sweet and caring woman to a cruel and cold slave owner. Douglass works for Mrs.Auld for about seven years and watches his once kindhearted mistress transform into a coldhearted tyrant. While Mrs. Auld would once sit and teach Douglass how to read and spell, she now snatched a newspaper out of his hand whenever she saw him. Another example is “Lennie twisted with embarrassment”. This shows that he is humiliated by Curley and just wants him to leave as he does not know what to say in reply to Curley and is rather like a hedgehog as he wants to curl up into ball. “Lennie was looking helplessly” shows his helplessness and inadequacy to sort out the problem as he needs to George to step in and help him. He cannot deal with the situation and is unable to get out of it without somebody else’s
Since Mary Norcom was only three years old when Harriet Jacobs became her slave, Mary's father, Dr. James Norcom, an Edenton physician, became Jacobs's de facto master. 17). This describes how he fails with girls: he either scares them or he is too immature in the way he talks to them. It makes him depressed that Sally would not want to go with him because he thinks there is nothing more to do in life so why not just get away from it. Holden is depressed due to disappointment because he feels that he cant do anything right. One of the many examples of this is when he
