The food is horrific, the sleeping conditions are terrible, and the place is very unsanitary. The nuns don’t show any respect for the children. For example, when Jennings wasn’t in the correct spot in line, Sister Frances took him and dragged him to his chair. “She grabbed me by the hair and dragged me to chair twenty-seven. (…)” Even though all these circumstances can make Jennings think negatively, he has held strong and maintained a positive attitude to the children and some nuns.
Up until the mid 1942’s most Jews were unaware that the Final Solution was being implemented throughout German occupied territory. Before their realization of this, they were stripped weapons and faced starvation. These two things coupled with what the thought that they were being deported to ghettos with food and housing helped them to believe that they didn’t need to take to arms and fight back. Also, the Nazis policy for reprisals worked against their want to fight. For every act of defiance and murder of a Nazi solider, a Jew and his family would be executed, sometimes even whole villages of Jews.
Regularly complaining of situations and the fact that his own body is deteriorating at a rate that’s faster than “other geniuses”. Mr Ramsay doesn’t react to this cruel fate however Mrs Ramsay notices the harsh reality of mortality however she chooses to cherish every moment she has left and the only character that manage to preserve this mortality is Lily through the form of art. This art is perhaps all that she can cling to and while mourning her mother’s death she reflects “nothing stays, all changes; but not words not paint”. I believe this is the true voice of Virginia Wolf shining through as she often does through Lily. This could relate to the sudden change in her family life, and her ability to express her life through art.
Billy Bibbit is undervalued in this novel because he is a perfect example of how some patients need the mental institution and are not ready for the outside world. Billy Bibbit is an extremely shy patient and has a terrible stutter whenever he talks to people. Billy’s mother did everything she could do to make Billy dependant on her and not let him grow up like a normal man should. His mother is close friends with Nurse Ratchet so she is constantly up to date on Billy and what he is doing. Before McMurphy got to the ward, Billy would act in a very adolescent fashion and he would also cut or burn himself.
Examples like Hester’s alienation during the scaffold scene, Pearl being shunned by children, and Dimmesdale’s isolation caused by his thoughts and intentions contributed to the novel’s prestige and grandeur. A great story with such emotional significance like this one with always be treasured. Isolation is not only experienced in this tale; it is experienced by everyone in everyday life. the evil of isolation can be a physically, morally, and socially tortuous event in Devoid of any social contact, save that of her daughter, Hester must endure of lonely existence. "In all her intercourse with society, save that of her daughter, there was nothing that made [Hester] feel as if she belonged
In this essay, I will be including and explaining the real facts and figures of what happened in the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a time of devastation and corruption. It was a time of cruelty and it was terribly inhumane. The Holocaust and its supporters tried vainly to make the world perfect, but only succeeded in killing millions. The Nazi’s and Adolph Hitler spoke against Jews even before the start of World War II, they blamed them for
Elie lost faith in God since he got in the concentration camp and he saw a lot of horrible things, he suffered a lot, but what it hurt him the most is the loss of his family and his dad. When he first got to the concentration camp he felt like he couldn’t do anything against the Nazis. He couldn’t understand why people were like that to his people, the Jews. When he heard the SS officers say “Men to the left, Women to the right” he didn’t know that was the last time he was going to see his mom and little sister and he couldn’t even say good-bye. When he got close to the crematorium he saw babies thrown to the flames, he asked himself “Was I still alive?
There was the polish resistance, who helped Szpilman escape death by the hands of the Germans several times; they save him from being loaded unto the train, which was to transport the Jews to the concentration camps, he was hidden in apartments from the Nazi SS officers. Even though majority of the polish people believed in Hitler’s anti-Semitism statements that the Jews were to be blamed for Germany’s downfalls, some of them only went along with it for fear of what could happen to them and their family. They wanted to support the Jews, but they’re family and self were important factors in them trying to stay safe. And not get involved in Hitler’s plans for world domination; they wanted to ensure their safety. The pianist shows how the tension was back in the Holocaust and the emotions of everyone involved.
I really wanted to just jump in the book and shake the characters and tell them what in hindsight they were missing. It really frustrated me to read that there weren’t any Hmong translators in a state that was home to many Hmong people. Nonetheless, it was a very hard and good books to read because many parts made me cry while other parts gave me hope for baby Lia. The major challenges of the healthcare providers were the clash about money and community services choked by welfare costs. The biggest problem of them all was the beliefs of the medical system and those of the Hmong people.
During his time alone along the journey, he keeps on getting flashbacks of moments he passed through.
