The world has recently faced us with disease and natural disasters that are proving to be some of the most vicious predators known to human existence today. Unquestionably, disease and illness has been one of the killers of humans since the beginning of time. Waves of disease and sicknesses have taken over vast parts of land and have claimed the lives of millions of human beings. These “microscopic life forms” (Par. 9), as Ehrenreich calls them, are as deadly as beastly predators.
The media have created unnecessary fear and moral panic to legitimize their personal agendas under the guise of “protecting children”. More often than not, alternate explanations are not even taken into consideration. Depression, poverty, ignorance, self deprecation, bullying, violent home life are seldom cited and when cited are not explored in depth. The justice system in nearly every state has revised its juvenile justice laws to increase their penalties in many ways; however, the Supreme Court deemed juvenile executions unconstitutional, which in turn created even more
The people of this group were mainly from the University of Oxford and began to view the use of animals as unacceptable exploitation. As the years went by animals were used more and more in experiments and tests which caused more people to stand up for them forming the subculture of animal lovers. PETA is one of the biggest and most powerful organizations in the fight for animal rights with nearly two million members and supporters. It was formed by Ingrid Newkirk and Alex Pacheco on March 1980, and its slogan is “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.” When I think of an animal lover the first thing that pops into my head is PETA. This organization symbolizes everything that an animal lover believes in and contains most of the subculture in its numbers.
Because of the fear of privacy invasion, the different federal agency databases were held on individual agency specific computer systems and were not accessible to anyone, but the owner. Having such a compartmentalized system did not give law enforcement nor intelligence the ability to assist each other in putting together potentially complex terror plots, and often the more sophisticated the terror plot, the more potential for mass killing (White, 2006). Communication is key in all parts of life, and especially important when dealing with such dire consequences. The USA PATRIOT Act, in Title VII, granted the expansion of information sharing systems in order to better facilitate communication between all agencies involved in counterterrorism. This called for the implementation of the Regional Information Sharing System (RISS) as a central database for all law enforcement to use (USA PATRIOT Act, 2001).
Animals are pets, either household or wildlife, and either way they should not be physically or verbally abused. Leaving animals unattended for long periods of time can lead to major problems. Neglect, uncared for, and unhealthy environment are all ways of abuse. Starvation, yelling and beating are physical and verbal abuse. Most animals get spayed or neutered to prevent the animals from breeding with one another.
Like genocide, terrorism has been used in warfare since warfare was first instituted. As the name states it is used to create a state of terror in the society that it is used against. This tactic is not only used against military targets, but also against civilian targets, in order to pressure the public against any retribution towards the group. Terrorism is very efficient and cost effective, as has been seen in recent years. As with genocide, terrorism does not create any moral dilemma to the society that implements it, yet the one that it is being used against is of the opinion that it is one of the worst things that can be used.
>>I will now inform you of the dangers of owning a wild animal. >The Humane Society of the United States's website tells us that >Exotic animals, by their very nature, are dangerous. Although most exotic animals are territorial and require group interactions, an exotic pet typically isolates and spends the majority of his/her day in a small enclosure unable to roam and express natural behaviors freely. These animals are time bombs waiting to explode. >Wild animals
Gun control has been a controversial issue in America for many decades, especially the debate concerning the most effective ways to reduce gun violence. We hear stories everyday of homicides, suicides, firearm accidents, and mass shootings resulting in more than 100,000 people being injured or killed per year. In the political arena, there are opposing views on the laws needed to reduce this gun violence epidemic. There is too much political arguing that causes Congressional gridlock, when what is important is to stop fighting each other and start fighting for the common good of the people. Many concerned citizens just want the political arguing to stop and to work together, not for political gain, but for the crucial purpose of saving lives.
Hundreds of millions of animals every year are being taken from their natural habitat to be sold illegally. The main types of animals that are being sold illegally are reptiles and birds which are most popular in the USA, Japan and Europe. In Australia, the main animal to be sold illegally is the black cockatoo species, which can be sold for up to $30,000. The demand for trading of illegal animals has risen extremely high over the past few years, increasing the value of illegal trading. The trading of illegal animals is the third most common illegal trading, the first being drugs and the second being human trafficking.
Some people argue that keeping animals in zoos is cruel as animals are kept away from their natural habitat and there would be no chance for animals to socialize with each other. Before we come to a conclusion perhaps we can examine what cruelty means. In Wikipedia, ‘cruelty to animals is the human infliction of suffering or harm upon non-human animals, for purposes other than self-defense or survival.’ Keeping animals in the zoo may not be ideal, but that does not mean that zookeepers in zoos are treating animal cruelly. For example, many zoos try to provide animals with an environment that is closest to their natural habitat. Zookeepers give the animals their food, while vets will provide the animals preventive medicine, quarantine and many more.
