Hannah H Speech Animal Abuse Animal abuse is a horrific epidemic. “About two- hundred and eighty- five hens are raised for eggs in the United States and most of them live in battery cages. . .” (Statistics). These birds do not have enough room to move. Animal cruelty can occur anywhere, not just with a house pet. People who abuse animals should be reported immediately to the local police and have severe punishment because animal cruelty will not stop until something is done about it. There are physical and environmental signs that an animal might be abused. Animal cruelty happens anywhere. The most common abuse is with a house pet. Animal cruelty is in food supply and zoos. For example, chickens are being abused in the food supply and their environment. They are in small, compacted areas and do not have room to move as much. In zoos, animal abuse happens because of the animals’ living area and how the zoo keepers and cleaners treat them. The environment where viewers see the animals are clean until the animals go back into their sleeping area. It is filthy and the zoo keepers are greedy and do not care about the animals so they give them unsanitary food or unsanitary water. Animal abuse should be reported immediately if it is happening or if someone thinks another person is doing it. “Try to photograph the abusive situation and date your pictures,” (ASPCA). Go to local policemen and report it. Some people think it is okay to hurt an animal because they are not human. Animals are human and have feelings just like every individual. For example, once someone harms a dog, the dog is upset and thinks they are in trouble; the dog is in trouble- with their health and their life. People that abuse animals should have a severe punishment. No one should hurt an animal if the animal has not done anything to anyone. The punishment should be imprisonment that could
